Depressing. Bye. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Jul 2011 11:30:06 -0400 (EDT) From: kwil632057@aol.com Subject: [AVALON] Reason or Rhyme live Much more like it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EQkxQEb_eM Tara's getting drumming lessons throughout this! I've always enjoyed your posts, they are extremely coherent and have depth of substance! You express thoughts very well via the written word. - And that, is of the utmost importance since it is our means of communicating on-list. The only reason I persist on Avalon IS because of contributors such as you!!! I, too, find it depressing that there is so much 'second-guessing' and 'expressions of derision' coupled with disrespect for Mr. Ferry. These 'fans' are the ones who should leave the list. I'm aghast that so many posters seem to not consider WHERE BF IS career-wise. He is past his zenith as a super-star from Roxy Music days. That is not to say that he is washed-up. On the contrary, his music catalog, from beginning to the present, remains the staple of my music-listening enjoyment. For me, Bryan Ferry IS very relevant. Sure, there are some things he has or hasn't done which I don't appreciate, but the giant dwarf is in the latter part of his life-cycle. Why wouldn't a fan, especially any aging fan who has slowly experienced their own age-related decline, not understand that a person and their physical attributes are always in flux, and, more so, the older they become: Growing old isn't pretty, and the age-related aches and pains aren't mere nuisance. (I guess the trick to 'dying while a superstar' is to live fast, die young.) I'm not cutting Mr. Ferry any slack, here. I am only saying any fan should considered mitigating circumstances when passing judgment. For myself - I haven't the ability to pen music and I remain thankful there are individuals who are capable. Without doubt, way beyond those who can, Bryan Ferry's talent is supernatural... I owe him dearly. Please don't go. KBP PS - To my BBFFFF - I have been remiss not to call. I haven't forgotten, have just been on Planet Witch lately and therefore not too pleasant to visit with. There are those who believe Ferry can do no wrong and defend him without exception (and at times with a fervour that puts religious fundamentalism into the shade) and others who are on the cusp of giving up on Ferry for whatever reason. I can't believe anyone has joined this list with the sole purpose of "dissing" Ferry and therefore those that are expressing "disrespect and derision" for Ferry perhaps have reason to. It's true nobody is perfect but that doesn't mean to say that the negatives should be ignored. It seems to me, that for some, an internal recalibration is going on similar to when you find a parent isn't quite as perfect as you once thought. For my part, Ferry has played a large and important part in my life for which I will be forever grateful. However recently, (say over the last eight years) I've been aghast at the "high handedness expressed towards fans and indeed "apparently" some of his colleagues alike. The turning point for me was the cancellation / non-cancellation of concerts at the last minute (promoters have said to me that they wouldn't want to work with Ferry again), and indeed I think the coordination of announcements of gigs with respect to fans could be so much better. I also think the "new Roxy" album and Olympia situation can at best be described as intriguing but seemed very strange to me. Having and expressing these thoughts doesn't I believe mean I should be ejected from Avalon as you suggest.
