I have great news Andrew. Just four short years ago BF announced he was writing his autobiography.. I understand he's already up to the bit where his father won a ploughing competiton and his auntie played him jazz records, so expect to hear his side of the story any decade soon. Notice how CD wrote his autobiography, then announced it, then put it on sale. BF and 'Team BF' could learn from that general approach. Too many undelivered promises. Also, just on a practical level, perhaps Ferry has judged the best way to maximise his earning potential in these later years is to tour (at what have not been insignificant venues). I don't think Difford has the same luxury (certainly not in the same league). I think his autobiography is one of several strands of potential income (I think he was recently doing a reminiscing type show along the lines of Guy Pratt - I could be wrong about that) and also smaller tours at smaller UK venues (than Ferry). Perhaps Difford simply had more time to do an autobiography. (I seem to remember being told Ferry had started an autobiography type thing when Simon Puxley was alive so that's been in the works for a while - perhaps it was being done in parallel to the BBC's Bryan Ferry story in the 90's?). Anyway, it is what it is. Ferry didn't promise me anything so I just wait with interest. Yes, I hear what you're saying Chris, agree to an extent and have also been disappointed by the Roxy collaboration demise and the numerous delays, but also can see how Ferry wants to keep creating too. Maybe it was just a case of " I tried but couldn't find a way / Looking back all I did was look away." Former bassist Sal Maida has inked his autobiography too. It carries the rather unweildy title of FOUR STRINGS, PHONY PROOF, AND 300 45S, but be warned, it's expensive, especially for those of us east of the Atlantic. http://hozacrecords.com/four-strings-phony-proof-and-300-45s-by-sal-maida/ Regards, Chris ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Aug 2017 13:27:45 +0000 From: Andrew Shearer Subject: Re: [AVALON] Chris Difford: Pencil sharpener to the stars...
