Roxy would still have happened but may have lost some of that magic dust that Eno cast over the band. We would have arrived at Siren quicker 2. I have read the band were not happy with the production on the first album saying it was a bit tinny and boxy. I have to agree and I think the album was basically recorded live. Maybe if Chris Thomas had been at the helm it would have sounded beefier than it did. Maybe the box set will reveal something but of course the original recordings may be partly locked in. 3. Oh what a joy that would have been - Roxy's version of Low anyone? 4. I love Country Life - absolutely love it. But. I have always found it a bit muddy in the mixing somehow - probably just my ears. Its very Wall of Sound and maybe Chris Thomas might have brought greater definition to each of the 24 tracks. 5. What can I say - Roxy would have continued to plough their unique furrow and benefitted from some of Ferry's best songs between Stranded and Manifesto as well as he best of PM and AMs solo work 6. Roxy may have turned a little more avant garde - Graham loved his jazz 7. No Dance Away - no second coming - shame as I think the East Side contains some of their best stuff - ever 8. For me personally I would have hoped it would have said to the band members they perhaps had wasted a couple of decades chasing solo glory and that each of them needed that collection of characters. 9. Now that I'm in the mood to post to Avalon once again, here is an amusing bit of Roxy trivia. I just read that English pop band Bananarama got the idea for their name from "Pyjamarama", way back when everyone was younger. If you don't believe me, take it from the Dutch wikipedia (I don't read Dutch, but even I can infer it) https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bananarama I wonder if that is where Dramarama got their name? Or did they get it from Bananarama? Any other ramas in pop music? Perhaps George Harrison would know. hare hare! LIVE Another fine edition... Digital CD tree number 2. Live versions of all the tracks from the 'For Your Pleasure' album (plus a few extras), sourced from radio and tv broadcasts, soundboard recordings and audience tapes recorded between 1972 and 2006. Dick has once again kindly supplied artwork. The selection criteria has been: Recordings not officially released on a live Roxy Music album (Viva, The High Road, Heart Still Beating, 2001 world tour). Different to versions/arrangements from tours featured on officially released live albums. Best possible sound quality. Tracks and sources: 1. Do The Strand (Hammersmith Odeon, London, 18 May 1979) 2. Beauty Queen (Newcastle City Hall, 28 October 1974) 3. Strictly Confidential (Wembley Empire Pool, 17 October 1975) 4. Editions Of You (Beat Club, Bremen, May 1973) 5. In Every Dream Home A Heartache (Hammersmith Odeon, London, 18 May 1979) 6. The Bogus Man (Wembley Arena, 2 August 1980) 7. Grey Lagoons (Paris Theatre, London, August 1972) 8. For Your Pleasure (Wembley Arena, 24 June 2001)* BONUS TRACKS 9. Pyjamarama (Leeds University, 5 October 1975)* 10. The Bogus Man (Munich, 7 May 1973)* 11. Beauty Queen (Glasgow Apollo, October 1974)* 12. Editions Of You (Glasgow Apollo, October 1974)* 13. Do The Strand (Glasgow Apollo, October 1974)* 14. Pyjamarama (Bospop Festival, Holland, 9 July 2006)* *audience recordings I've included a few duplicate tracks in the bonus tracks. The second version of The Bogus Man features Eno (and is probably the best quality recording with Eno from that tour), but I thought it'd interesting to hear how that song sounded with him still in the line up. The Glasgow tracks are included simply because it sounded like an amazing gig. Just listen to that crowd! It must have been incredible to play in front of audiences like that. Finally, Pyjamarama was only perfomed a couple of times on the Siren tour and this is the only known recording. The Bospop version is there because it was good to hear Roxy do that song live again.
