It's a chronological/continuous mix of tracks. All are from readily available recordings, but hopefully you will enjoy the live concert feel to it. Name: Roxy Music. Chris Thomas had produced the first album? I believe that the band had rehearsed & been playing these songs for a while, so perhaps a softer, more polished/Pink Floyd sound? 4. Chris Thomas had produced Country Life. Now that could have been interesting, but this was Ferry's album, the multi tracking (24 tracks?) was with TFT's to be the start of his eventual Horoscope hell. I don't think CT would have polished it much as it's a perfect album. The whole band were on fire!! It was Ferry who left after FYP: Great start with ever diminishing returns. I don't think Eno would have ended up in music. I think he would have become an eccentric, avant garde artist. Roxy was his way into music. 2. It definitely would have been more polished and possibly therefore a little less cherished by us? 3. Stranded would have been staggering rather than merely phenomenally great. Roxy might possibly have covered some of Eno's songs- although I think Blank Frank and Dead finks dont talk would not have figured in this! 4. I dont think Country Life would have been very different- maybe The Thrill of it all would have been shorter? 5. Well quite possibly some of the songs on In your Mind might have become RM songs and BF might have postponed his solo career. 6. I think RM would have been a happier band if GS had stayed and maybe the split after Siren may not have happened. Having rewatched the short docu on him recently, though, I doubt very much if he could have stayed. 7. A one-sided album? No seriously, I think Manzo and Mackay would have had to come up with more material- which would probably have been a good thing. 8. I suspect the press would have greeted the album with scorn, but we of course, would have lapped it up. 9. Maybe the most interesting question of all: undoubtedly it would not have lasted very long. Here come the warm jets (with a few track changes- possibly some from PM and AM) would have been the 3rd Roxy album. I suspect Eno would have left after that to do something different. That of course, raises the question of who would have been the next front man. Perhaps Godley and Crhme might have joined or someone like Paul Carrack? Great questions Richard!! - -----Original Message----- From: owner-avalon@smoe.org [mailto:owner-avalon@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Richard Evans Sent: 03 September 2016 14:22 To: avalon@smoe.org Subject: [AVALON] What if ......... Really appreciate the time and effort gone into this. Love the artwork too. takes us all back to the Bootleg Tree Days. It must be about 7 years since I listened to a Bootleg. pretty well stopped collecting them then. This thread has really got us back in the groove of what we as a group are here for. Now itbs like waiting for the next album to come out. The anticipation of the next Tree. Well I suppose we wont have to wait outside a Record store in the rain like the old days. Viva Simon ! It's a delight to see the Avalon flame rekindled. Is there an alignment in the planets? Have the tectonic plates moved? Are we all just getting old and nostalgic? Whatever the reason it's great to see that global camaraderie spark into life again. By strange coincidence the Glasgow chapter are meeting tonight for dinner, drinks and a catch up for the first time in quite a few years. (Thanks to Diane for making the effort to organise us some weeks back.) We will also toast our friend (and sometime list lurker) Robert Jackson who passed away recently ...and doubtless marvel at how this list which is so last century is infinitely better than the technology that ought to have replaced it. Somewhat at a tangent, my daughter facetimed me last night to show me her new kitten - jet black and tiny and in no way fyp panther-like. "I've named her Roxy" she said. Aye, all of those years of exposure to those tunes have left their mark I thought... and she also inhabits the "first five" camp like her old dad. Must be in the DNA. The kitten sounds not unlike BF these days! Look forward to the ongoing chat. Good wishes to all. Having just recently bought the complete remake of Rick Wakeman's 'King Arthur' album and having listened to many remakes of albums/tracks by other artists, it crossed my mind that a project that might work for Mr Ferry (no new lyrics required) and for others- in particular Mr Eno, would be a remake of an album or an album of remakes. After all, it's been done before- BF has released quite a few new version of old songs. What does anyone else think and what tracks would we like to hear remade? Although I absolutely love FYP to death, I remember BE saying he thought some of the tracks could have done with more polishing (eg The Bogus Man). Of course, it's probably just a pipe dream, but who cares?! mactheaxe ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 03 Sep 2016 18:56:33 +0100 From: Evans Richard Subject: Re: [AVALON] Holy Grail Thanks Terry - gonna listen tomorrow - much appreciated On 3 Sep 2016, at 16:45, Terry wrote: > Hi people of Avalon > > > > I have used We Transfer (first time user!!) to post a Live Roxy Music album. > It's a chronological/continuous mix of tracks.
