[Chris Turner ] Re: [AVALON] The First Roxy Music Album...Live ["John O'Brien" Subject: [AVALON] It's Good News Week... Roxy Music had a Platinum album last year. OK, so it took almost 14 years for 'The Best of Roxy Music' to reach Platinum status in May last year but selling 600,000 of anything is pretty good in my book. Source: http://goo.gl/XXPykI Avonmore was more successful that Olympia. At least in chart performance anyway. Although both albums had a three week initial run peaking at #19, Avonmore had a further four week chart run last year, four months after release, this time getting to #28. On that evidence, it would have sold better that its twin-brother.. Source: http://goo.gl/JPojv6 Ferry Inspires Award-Winning Film Title Hong Kong film 'In The Mood For Love', whose English title was inspired by Bryan Ferry's 1999 version of 'I'm In The Mood For Love' (it appeared on some international versions of the soundtrack) was this very week voted the second best film of the 21st Century by BBC Culture. Source: http://goo.gl/zURbL2 The Jazz Age sold 100,000 copies. ...at least according to Alistair Norbury, BF's manager for the last 10 years. Must be true; I'm sure a man who was in the past both a lawyer and a marketing man wouldn't make something up just to impress a potential employer, would he? Just kidding. Well done to BF if it's true. I wasn't one of the 100K I can assure you. Source: http://goo.gl/Ui5r0n More Gems in the Archives Dave Stewart's recent lightweight but entertaining autobiography 'Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This' is filled with nice anecdotes about his work with The Commander. Clearly an admirer of BF both as an artist and a man ('there's nobody like him really; they definitely broke the mold (sic)'), Stewart revealed that he and BF sometimes listen to some of the unreleased outtakes from their sessions together in the 1990s. There are 'loads of unfinished sketches and songs that were either put to the side or just didn't fit with the project'. There's also a nice anecdote about how DS met his partner when he and BF were out on the lash. Well, strictly speaking they were invited to dinner in St Tropez by the Duchess of Seville. Which of us hasn't had that eh? Source: http://goo.gl/mU9Hgj There you go. Five pieces of good news. Are you happy now? Folks, Avalon isn't a hagiography. Sometimes people will have a different opinion to you. More fool you if you take any notice of mine. Just for the record, although BF's post-Frantic output leaves me pretty cold, I liked just about everything up until then (more than most can say, I'll bet), I still think he's got a lot to offer live, he has a wonderful back catalogue, and above all, I ALWAYS want him to succeed, because I'll ALWAYS think he's great. Chris PS. Nice one, Simon. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Aug 2016 10:04:52 +0000 From: "John O'Brien" Subject: Re: [AVALON] The First Roxy Music Album...Live Thanks for all your effort Simon, it's great to see vibrancy around this group again. I played the freshly burned cd in the car yesterday and heard the Master of Melancholy unwittingly moan it himself: 'Your memory stays, it lingers ever...' Many wonderful instrumental aberrations on these tracks! Thanks for all the high-spirited posts. Looking forward to the upcoming show in Ostende (Belgium) on 5 October, keeping fingers crossed that he won't ruin his vocal chords in this amazingly long chain of gigs. Anyone else going?
