I am astounded. Apparently I've very unusual music taste as the least popular/purchased Ferry albums are my favorites (Bjte Noire, Boys and Girls, and Olympia are still in a dead heat for second place whereas that horsey thingy remains my personal favorite.) I don't know - how is it possible all those masses of consumers could be so daft? Or, are we the lucky, the chosen ones, where Mr. Ferry's output is concerned? - I'd like to think so. ... Does anyone have a valid postal address where I could send 'royalty' fees to Mr. Ferry for all the unofficially 'published' items I have in my possession? - I owe the man dearly... ... At this rate, by August, the audience will have to sing to him! I still find some enjoyable songs on Olympia, but - - perhaps significantly - they are the covers "Song To The Siren" and "No Face, No Name, No Numbers" Much of Olympia, to me, sounds contrived, artificial, laboured, sometimes even embarrassing. A maximum amount of hard work and sophisticated studio techniques, skilled musicians etc cannot replace that spark of genius that was so abundantly present in fresh sounding songs like Virginia Plain and Do The Strand. Bryan Ferry's synthetic Avalon he is trying to retire to with works like Olympia is not my idea of heaven. Just lucky that his live shows still rock and he has not forgotten what makes the majority of us happy. But isn't it great that the man attracts people with so many different tastes? To me: .. whatever makes you dance.
