Mott the Hooples October 2010 release, the Christmas-themed album Your Own Santa Claus was released 36 years and 6 months after the bands previous studio album, March 1974s The Hoople. The Yardbirds previously held the longest gap title for six years: The Yardbirds April 2003 release Birdland was released over 35 years and nine months after the bands last studio album, July 1967s Little Games, which featured Jimmy Page in the bands last lineup of the 1960s. Ex-Yardbird Page is no stranger to Mott the Hoople, having attended a number of Mott the Hoople reunion shows in both 2009 and 2010. At one 2010 show, Page even joined the band on stage at the HMV Apollo for a version of Chuck Berrys Run Rudolph Run from the recently released Christmas album and backed Amy Winehouse on a duet with Ian Hunter, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. Coincidentally, one of Ian Hunters pre-Mott bands, managed by Mickie Most, was to be called the new Yardbirds -- a name initially used by Page for Led Zeppelin. Led Zeppelins late manager, Peter Grant, was also the manager of Mott guitarist Mick Ralphs post-Mott band, Bad Company. One potential challenger for the longest gap category is Roxy Music. Bryan Ferry, who has notoriously suffered from writers block over the years, openly anticipates another five or six years work on the lyrics for recordings begun in 2006 with Brian Eno, Phil Manzanera, Andy MacKay and Paul Thompson. And before the Roxy Music album is completed, Ferry has at least two additional projects to finish: First, Ferry is recording collection of Neil Young covers and touring to support the album. A second set of Noel Coward covers, a long awaited follow-up to 1999s As Time Goes By, may follow with yet another tour. If the new Roxy Music album is ultimately released in December 2018, it would be 36 years and seven months after the bands last studio album, May 1982s Avalon. Yes. It could happen, said Ferry.
