Sorry. I've been away from a computer for a week or so. Some of you may have enjoyed the quiet? I've done my best to keep abreast via my mobile phone. And a while back, R Deagle whetted my appetite by saying: Letterman just ended, someone will have it on YouTube within the hour. You Can Dance. Appears to be: Ollie/guitar, Tara/drums, Marcus Miller/bass, and a woman I can't identify on Keyboard. 2 singers, 2 dancers. Great rendition. Ferry actually smiles some. I have now seen the YouTube/AudioPerv footage of this and slightly let down/taken aback. You do know that Marcus Miller is a cool slim tall black dude? While the bass player on Letterman is a more familiar presence with Ferry's set line-up. Would love to see Marcus play live with Ferry... I also enjoyed Martino's attempt to jump to Ferry's defence as he will at every turn. "Can people over 60 be ground-breakers? Tough". Ha! I just so know he was imagining me seething and typing BRIAN ENO!!!!!! at those words. How restrained was I? But I have been thinking along the lines of those listed above (and others) and wondering... I have developed a theory which itself is not ground-breaking, but here goes... I think that Ferry rates Roxy Music as superior to his own solo work. I think the music they'd produced thus far for the supposed reunion work just wasn't exciting enough (in BF's mind) to bear the Roxy name, but he could imagine it on a solo album as the quality wouldn't need to be so high or attract the same scrutiny. But some tour dates had been pencilled in, in anticipation of the album having been released. Rather than miss the opportunity of that money, they've stuck with the dates and played them for kicks, rather than "the lovers in the audience", so to speak. I think Ferry feels he can get away with Olympia and he can. Loyal Ferry fans like Martino think it's a masterpiece. But it is not a Roxy Music album by any stretch. MS always gets me wrong and thinks me anti-BF and nothing could be further from the truth, but I do think Ferry considers his own solo work inferior to Roxy's canon. So I don't think the non-emergence of a new Roxy album has anything to do with not having the time or not being bothered, but total lack of confidence. What do y'all think? I think the set list at O2 was almost perfect. I missed OOTB and R/R but otherwise...I think by decade, the potency of all Ferry (inc Roxy) material seems to have been 1) 70s 2) 80s 3) Noughties 4) 90s Which is pretty much what the O2 set was, so Ferry played to his strengths perhaps? I demand a refund as well as an apology. Moreover, I can confirm authoritatively that Elle Macpherson was with ME last night, not Bryan. She has brown hair.
