Hi all Great to meet up with all the usual suspects again at Glasgow. I've been reading all the fantastic comments on your favourite Roxy segments , which was very hard to do as different times of life and moods and the fact that Roxy is Roxy because of all the SOLO parts played by various members of Roxy past and present and bringing all that talent and sound together as Roxy Music. On a different note Glasgow 1st night, what made it special for me (front row centre), danced and sang to the whole remarkable performance, sounds I never thought to ever hear live which was a dream come true. Came home no voice, feet killing me, sore back, deaf and ears making a whooshing noise all night, but being the happiest man totally fulfilled and grinning and chirpy as a teenager. Glasgow 2nd night - row V centre, I couldn't see that far . First notes of India, I made it to front centre alongside usual suspects, (thanks Diane), the crowd was in better form due to too much security on the first night. Pre-show Glasgow 2 - autograph and camera time. For more years than I care to remember I have tried to get a photo with AM but to no avail, a dream come true. Perfect pose with AM, thank you sir. Checked my camera nice picture of Malcolm with BF and PM that I took, then the picture of AM and me...... GRRRRRRR Fantastic photo of our knees and shoes - nothing else (Remember Edinburgh and the shoes Reece)? After show Glasgow 2nd night - Thanks to Tracy got a fantastic pic with Andy (at last dream has come true). Got Malcolm to take an up to date pic with BF and myself, not to bad Malcolm got half of BF's head at least. Hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did, to the lucky people who attend the rest of the tour have a great time its worth every penny. Maybe next time an 80s and beyond tour for the people who did not understand this tour, or even something new, then dreams would come true. Well, sort of. Over the years, Glasgow has oft been the meeting place for such a large number of us, for yet more of all this Roxy Music shenanigans. Not that I'm complaining - - ideal for me, a trip back to my hometown (a Roxy or Ferry gig is always the catalyst for a visit) to meet up with everyone, many who also travel from afar, is an absolute joy. It's been said many times - and I hope it will continue to be said well into the future - but the meeting up, before and after, the travel, the chit chat, the reminiscing, is all part of it. It's really not just the gig. I just couldn't stay away from that setlist - I had to peek - after all, there were 2 gigs before my Glasgow visit on the Friday, and there was no way at all that I had any self control of avoiding finding out what was on offer. I was amazed. It's not something we've been used to, over the years, a spot of self indulgence from Roxy. Quite the opposite in fact - but not this time. This really was much more of a 'Fans Setlist'. Much has been said of the rather 'muddy sound', yes, i noticed it too. But did I care ? Not really - the opportunity to hear some of those songs again, 2HB, Amazona et al, was something I, and so many others, thought they would never, ever, get the chance to do again. The 'dread' amongst many, was a carbon copy setlist of the last few years. We never expected the opposite. I understand the general bemusement of the 'casual fans' who attended, who wondered what on earth they were hearing, for an hour. It brought a wry smile to many of us, ahem, 'diehards', I can tell you. The inclusion of 'Sentimental Fool' was a wonderful surprise - I know it had been rehearsed for a recent Ferry solo tour, but it didn't make the cut - but to have it here was so special. I've said it before, and I'll say it again - I name it as my fave Roxy song. Not the whole thing, mind - it's a particular part of it that just hypnotises, gets under your skin, into your brain, the dizzy spin I'm in - get your CDs out folks - for if anyone, ever, said to me, "so, what's this Roxy Music band all about then" ?, I'll direct them to the 5th Studio album, Track 3, and ask them to play from 4.44, to 6.10. Then I'll say, "THAT, my friend, is Roxy Music". I've never heard a more spine-chilling minute and a half. It got me thinking. There I was, in Box L, Seat 1, in the Glasgow Apollo, on a chilly winters evening, on the Siren Tour. The set opened with Sentimental Fool - and that was the last time I had heard Roxy play that song. Now, a little over 310,105 hours later, they're playing it again. (Aren't calculators great ? ) :) A long time to wait, especially to relive one minute. But the whole damn gig was fabulous. Go see them if you possibly can - the best Band in the World are in town. However, I wasn't originally going to respond because I'm useless at these 'Top Ten' lists - I can never settle on a choice for more than about ten minutes at a time. Then just now, something happened which, frankly, surprised even me. Looking for another song entirely, I accidentally clicked on a track I haven't listened to for ooh, probably years. It's never going to feature in anyone's Top Ten - indeed, it's one of the least regarded of all Roxy tracks. It was (to my own consternation) 'Sultanesque' (cue the sound of women gasping, men fainting and dray horses getting a fit a of the vapours ...) Yet even in this unlovely, bap-faced, ugly little runt of a piece, I found a moment of beauty. Just when that gong crescendo peaks, giving way to the distorted guitars, I felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. At that point I realised that, for me anyway, there is at least one 'Roxy moment' on each and every track - at least, of those first five studio albums (Roxy's own 'Mighty Handful'), the accompanying singles/B-sides and 'Viva !'
