But why they've dubbed the original album track over the top of the performance I have no idea. When I learned that BF was on Later, I did what I have done a number of times when there has been a guest I especially wanted to see. I've done this for Yusuf Islam, Marianne Faithfull (featuring Leo Abrahams and Roger Eno) and Carole King. I also did the same for Bryan Ferry at the BBC live show at St Lukes Church in Old Street and Roxy Music on the last Jonathan Ross show. I get to the BBC as the queue is forming and ask everyone in the queue if they have a spare ticket. Usually there is someone eventually. Usually the last person to arrive. When I went to see Carole King on Later, there wasn't. But by hanging around 30 minutes after the queue had filed through (and all the guest list people had been counted in), the security then agreed to let me in. I've met some true Bryan Ferry fans. Like Bryan Ferry himself, they have too much style and panache to stoop so low. Next week, Brian Eno is speaking at the Crunch Festival at Hay-on-Wye (Nov 20). Estimated journey time from me is 4-5 hours (according to various websites I've consulted). The following night, there's a performance of Eno's music by a Canadian outfit at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. It's not always about where you are but where you want to be.
