Unless of course an artist pays big bucks (and I'm talking about a lot of money, something Ferry couldn't afford I think) to get promoted and then they put up a stand of some sort. It happened often that we had 2 or 3 copies from an artist and they were instantly sold out...then we had to wait for a couple of days to get some more and we would get another 3 copies instead of the amount people were asking for. It's all the stores management...and it was often very frustrating because crappy music came in with big numbers and good music didn't and when people asked for it we didn't have any. Maybe it's the same for Best Buy... I went to Saturn (which is 'family of Mediamarkt) and they had Ferry's new cd against the new items wall. Which is something!! But they had like 30 copies of the normal edition (13.99 euro) and 2 copies of the cd/dvd edition (14.99). I went on the first day at noon (22 oct). They rang me for the deluxe copy that came in. They still had one left in the store. I had to hurry and call my friend who wanted a cd/dvd and he went the next day and got the last one. So why not more cd/dvd versions as they were only one euro more expensive??? It's all very silly how it works in those big chains... I often got frustrated and thought I should work at that office, it would be a lot better. So if they guy who works at the top doesn't think Ferry will sell, then he won't order a lot of items and the store ends up with 3 copies. That's the way it is. And Rod Steward just released his gazillionth cover album and it sells to the big mass, Seal also keeps selling big time. Ferry can never top that. Because he attracts a total different audience. Maybe the RS album isn't bad, but I would call thay one of those crappy albums. Everyone buys it, but is it really that good? Is Seal that good? I bought a lot of his albums, but stopped buying since Soul came out. I don't even care. Because he had a big hit with Soul he probably sells well now and it was produced by that famous producer and got promoted big time. I never see that happen for Ferry. He got promoted big time in the UK and see where he ended up in the charts...it must be much better than that. But he just hasn't got the audience for it.. The mass doesn't like that sort of music. I have sold thousands of cd's in 2 years and it's nearly brings you to tears if you look at what people buy. The worst music sold very well. If I look at the UK charts it's better than here, but over here you could cry if you look at the charts, especially at the singles chart. Let's say most people aren't sophisticated as us :-) Michele - ----- Original Message ----- From: "M.M.K." It's a particularly well written and balanced review, well worth picking up. There's a nice one page interview with Ferry and a cool photo as well. He's very smiley these days. I think Eno's latest gets 3/5.
