Which is quite good I think. Usually our charts are made up of crappy albums.. In the normal top 10 albums chart of itunes he is currently at number 4. Last week he came in at 3. cheers, Michhle (from Belgium) ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 31 Oct 2010 16:28:32 +0100 From: =?iso-8859-1?Q?Mich=E8le_Millecamps?= Subject: [AVALON] BF charts Belgium Hello all, Maybe this was what BF was mentioning about topping the Belgian charts: http://www.apple.com/euro/itunes/charts/top10rockalbums.html (number one, in the rock albums chart on itunes) In the normal sales chart he came in at number 15. Brian Eno's ridiculously (well into three figures) priced collector's edition was sold out weeks before its release (not yet happened), gets to work with whoever he likes and doesn't know how much he gets paid (cos he's rich as Croesus) by whom, releases work when he wants to but prefers to do talks alongside Richard Dawkins and Stewart Brand (cos that's where his interests lie); while Bryan Ferry is having to "meet the public" at signings, do interviews with Richard Bacon, Jason Medford and Alan Titchmarsh (for God's sake) and perform on Monday's Loose Women to get his glimmer of interest for projects that essentially re-make and re-model (My Only Love) or embellish earlier recordings (Alphaville/Whatever Gets You Through The Night). Well, at least he'll make number one in Belgium. Bryan Ferry...Brian Eno...I love Bryan Ferry and I love Brian Eno. But which is best?* Paul, I think I told you, I'm a lover, not a fighter. Best wishes Richard Mills * My take from the Guardian comments would be a slight preference for Eno? And none of them are pseudonymously me. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 31 Oct 2010 13:49:32 -0400 From: kwil632057@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Define winning It's such a crap argument to call foul on Ferry releasing 'earlier recordings'. I can assure you that lots of artists work on songs for a considerable time before they see the light of day. A fair few people were lucky enough to hear earlier, in-progress recordings stolen from Ferry's studio and seem to regard later, official releases as Ferry having another bite of the same cherry. They really aren't. I'm sure it's thrilling to see Eno in conversations with Brand and Dawkins but Ferry is a mainstream artists who wants to sell albums. He's hit the trail and been a witty guest on a number of chat shows already. It's a win/win situation. Eno can work with whoever he chooses, can he? Belinda Carlisle and Coldplay must have been for financial reasons I guess... J ps. I'm sure Brian is thrilled that you forked out for all those collector's editions! embellish earlier recordings (Alphaville/Whatever Gets You hrough The Night). - -----Original Message----- From: chandla911@aol.com To: avalon@smoe.org Sent: Sun, 31 Oct 2010 16:55 Subject: [AVALON] Define winning Someone or other wrote: May the best man win http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2010/oct/28/bryan-ferry-brian-eno ut win depends on the targets set. A fairly disappointing 19, although I suspect the album will be a solid seller. A shame, it deserves a much higher placing. Front-racked between Michael Buble and KT Tunstall. Good sign. I took the disk to the cashier who told me I was the 2nd copy sold today (mall had only been open 2 hours at that point). Then, the 20-something added "My mom loves this guy! But I listened to this album and I LOVE it! He's soooo cool!". Music to my ears! The cashier had downloaded her copy of Olympia from iTunes. Good girl! Its all sales. Now, maybe it was listening to the enthusiasm of a new generation of fans, or maybe the full, uncompressed audio of the CD (instead of an online, low-res MP3), but even Heartache... sounds better. Its still crap compared to the rest of the album, though. No favourite track yet, but then, I have a whole week to obsessively listen to it and make a decision. I really am liking Olympia. Cheers! Hmm, it might be to do with the time of year - all the big hitters are plying their Christmas goods and I think inspite of how highly we regard him he will pale to insignificance. Might have been better just before summer in view of the chart placings but perhaps the promo work would have been wasted then and they wouldn't have shifted as many units. I'm sure there are others here that can speak more knowledeably than me about chart placings and time in the year etc. > To: avalon@smoe.org > Subject: [AVALON] Olympia's UK chart placing... > Date: Sun, 31 Oct 2010 15:54:35 -0400 > From: kwil632057@aol.com > > A fairly disappointing 19, although I suspect the album will be a solid > seller.
