And yet despite being billed as a solo effort it sees the musician joining forces once again with Roxy Music's Phil Manzanera, Andy Mackay and Brian Eno, the first time all four have been in the studio together since the band's 1973 album For Your Pleasure. Is it actually true???? To look at the facts: Mamouna had more invlovement from Mackay, Manzanera and Eno than this album, something the press don't seem to be aware of. It seems that discounting a cover 'Song To The Siren' on Olympia, Mackay Manzanera and Eno don't play together all on one track. There is no more of a Roxy re-union here than Mamouna. Presumably the Roxy material remains largley untouched for this album. It appears to me in terms of material and musicians Olympia is no more or no less a Bryan Ferry solo album than any of his previous solo albums. J.O'B. If they don't like Olympia they might then run a story that says....."thank God the Roxy recordings stayed in the can - on this evidence they weren't worth the effort" BTW - I think Song To The Siren is very very good R On 18 Oct 2010, at 18:44, JohnOBrien001@aol.com wrote: > I have seen many press articles mention that this is the first time Roxy > have recorded together since 1973 etc. I also see some fans complain that BF > has hijacked the Roxy album and put it out as Olympia. > > To look at the facts: Mamouna had more invlovement from Mackay, Manzanera > and Eno than this album, something the press don't seem to be aware of. > > It seems that discounting a cover 'Song To The Siren' on Olympia, Mackay > Manzanera and Eno don't play together all on one track. > > There is no more of a Roxy re-union here than Mamouna. It has already garnered a good deal of press attention, primarily because of Kate Moss lolling about on the album cover. But there is more to it than that. Although it isnt a Roxy Music album, Olympia marks the first time bandmates Phil Manzanera, Andy Mackay and Brian Eno have performed together on an album since 1973, and what is more they are performing a lot of original material. This landmark of reconciliation is rather thrilling for all fans, but especially so for younger fans who have a unique opportunity to hear new material performed by Roxy Music (I just hope it doesnt result in the heartache that The Phantom Menace did).
