Thanks for posting this Dick. I would love to hear a really stripped back version with just some of the ethereal Eno synths, Ferry's haunting voice and Andy's lovely oboe. But I guess the 'ethereal versions' have already been well and truly covered. I am getting quite excited about Olympia now and that hasn't happened to me re a Ferry solo album since the halcyon days of Boys and Girls and Bete Noire (but only because Alphaville doesn't count). ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Oct 2010 13:09:06 +0300 From: Pasi Toivo Subject: [AVALON] Jazz Ferry Hi I don4t know if someone knows this: http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?PID=8297888&style=music&frm=lk_jkel man Release time 26 October BR Pasi ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Oct 2010 07:36:27 -0400 From: Alan Heaton Subject: Re: [AVALON] Jazz Ferry Thanks for pointing this out! As the guy who made the Roxy Music tribute album "Take Refuge In Pleasure: The songs of Roxy Music Revisited," I am of course very interested in any and all Roxy-related tributes. (By the way, we still have a few copies left of the 42-track, 3-CD "Deluxe & Delightful Edition" at www.burningskyrecords.com - get yours before they are gone for good!). Bravo to anyone who revisits the Roxy/Ferry catalogue and tries to take the classic originals in new directions. That said, a "smooth jazz" tribute to Bryan Ferry scares me a bit - I hope it's not too Muzak-y! How is this possible? I am very excited for the release of "Olympia". Mr. Ferry's lyrics therein are, once again, very introspective. Lovely. And Haunting. Also, I am very encouraged about BF's future ambition, revealed in the "Pitchfork" interview, excerpted as follow; Pitchfork: Do you still have the desire to do something more abstract? BF: Oh yeah. I do feel like that part of my work hasn't been developed enough or I haven't allowed myself to do enough of it, which is a shame... ....But it's reached a point in my life where I have to do things I've never done before. Checking-in to get checked-out... Excuse me, although that may be true in certain (OK, many) cases, not guilty here. Mr Canning is convinced that the Lonesome Star and the Big Country have some other connotation. I am yet (after all these years) yet to be persuaded. My mind is virginal and clear, thank you. But DON'T buy anything with Prairie Rose on it just to be on the safe side! ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V14 #145 ***************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
