On paper the Saturday headlining slot at a festival growing in stature with each passing year should be some kind of jewel in the crown. Maybe it's the lack of rehearsal, maybe it's the decibel cap in a park surrounded on all sides by residential property, or maybe it's the fact that a sizeable chunk of the crowd headed for home during Mark Ronson's set, but this is a curiously muted performance. Although the set is front-loaded with early 70's gems (Editions of You, Ladytron, Re-make/Re-model), there's none of the spiky art-school energy of the recorded versions. Instead, we're given a wine bar covers band variation on Roxy, replete with polite instrumental breaks that struggle to catch fire, and a frontman who, while still in fine voice, never seems to connect with the songs. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Sep 2010 09:12:28 -0400 From: Alan Heaton Subject: Re: [AVALON] Lovebox : for your mild displeasure Eeeek! A "wine bar covers band variation"??? I sure didn't feel that way when I was fortunate enough to see them in 2001. Again, as many as have mentioned, I'm mainly just glad that Roxy Music still deigns to tour at all!
