The impressive list of collaborators on the set includes David Gilmour, Jonny Geenwood, Nile Rodgers, Marcus Miller, Mani and Flea, while songwriting contributors include Scissor Sisters and Groove Armada. I guess the Roxy festival gigs will be profile raisers for F's album and tour? So many questions......... How can this not be great news? Even if he's ported some of his compositions from a putative roxy album to a solo album - which I doubt - then is it really such a tragedy if gilmour plays the solos instead of manzo?? Either way there is now real hope that the new disc will have a distinctive feel (a la taxi or b&g) rather than the hotchpotch of frantic. If it's true that andy catto got him to revisit the groove of b&g then it's a cause to rejoice surely? And if - IF - the celebrated roxy "soup" isn't apparent I'm sure roxy die-hards can look forward to manzo and mackay solo offerings .. I kinda got it 27 years ago. I loved seeing then in 01 and 02. But the Frantic and Dylanesque tours were fabulous and I honestly fail to see what the non-Ferry members of Roxy add in a modern context. The guitarist line-up on the dylanesque tour would be hard to beat. I hugely admire Andy and Phil, and am delighted that Bryan proffers them a few bob in their September years, but c'mon, you're dreaming if you think a new Roxy would transform bryan's compositions into Beauty Queen .... Well let's just blame all our red wine you scoffed at La Pigalle for braying "Maestro! Maestro!" at non-Ferry MacKay and the Metaphors then eh? You quite evidently saw absolutely nothing experimental or of any modern reference in them that night. Must get my eyes/ears/teeth fixed. but c'mon, you're dreaming if you think a new Roxy would transform bryan's compositions into Beauty Queen .... Do you know what Martino, you know me better than me Mum, and here was me thinking I wasn't that naive! Thank god you're there to get inside my head, otherwise I would never have known that all my tastes musical and otherwise are suspended in a 1973 aspic. Which reminds me, must catch up with the box set of Ashes to Ashes. Hey, look Martino, I almost made a cricketing connection just for you!
