My boys and I, each listening, watching and doing something else, in the same room. The possibilities of modern technology are endless. Always nice to hear that old familiar voice, though it was hard to really get into it. Was it because of the background noise? Also 'treatments'. Could it be old age? But anyway, the words were hard for me to get... First another voice in French about kissing. And then Our Man, about longing, yearning, desire... And then a bit monotonous. The possibilities of modern technology seem wider to me. They could have been used more creatively. But then, less is more... My friends. My verdict: perhaps a good tune for routine jobs... (Ah, those 'Arbeidsvitaminen'...) Chance had it that the track found its place between "The Cruel Ship's Captain" and "Dick around - Sparks". Interesting mix. On another note: this week I saw Neil Patrick Harris singing about 'Suits' in the 100th episode of the tv-series 'How I Met Your Mother'. I see a Roxy-connection there: pop culture mixing in with old traditions. Have a look and a listen, if you can. (Youtube seems a likely source.) Some Americans might have seen him (NPH) presenting the 61st Emmy Awards Ceremony. He opened singing! Very impressing, this opening song. And a nice white jacket. Where have I seen that before. Bryan's voice doesn't sound quite right - have they messed about with it or is it just the audio quality..or just me? The interview was conducted by Jacobo Celnik and appeared in the COPA Airlines in-flight magazine in 2009. In it, Phil talks about Corroncho, his studio album featuring Dave Gilmour, Paul Thompson and others. (I haven't yet heard it.) Below, the quote that's probably of most interest to Avalon subscribers. "We have been slowly working on a Roxy Music album for three years. In fact, we have ten songs finished and Eno contributed a great deal; we hope to have it ready before the end of the year. Some topics are similar to material from the 70s and are sure to electrify our fans." Compare with Bryan's comments, at least as reported by the Daily Mail, which I read just a few days later when Adrew Shearer posted a link. "'I don't think we'll record as Roxy again,' he says. 'We went into the studio after the 2001 reunion. We fiddled around a bit, but then I went off to make another solo record.'" Funny old band. :) The COPA article is in both Spanish and English - someone whose Spanish is better than mine might want to look at the translation, assuming the interview was originally done in Spanish. (I certainly hope it was.) I've shared the interview using Dropbox - here's the URL, in unfashionable and fashionable forms - use either but let me know if you have problems getting to the PDF. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2901950/PhilManzaneraCopa2009.pdf http://bit.ly/4XchCP Ernesto was going to send a link to the list (apologies if he already did) and thanks for scanning it and for sending it to me directly when I asked. I was only reminded of it after yesterday's burst of activity. Speaking of which, I'm still loving that Ferry/Groove Armada thing. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V14 #13 **************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
