It's been a little while since I posted something here, but I have been working really hard at trying to get our homage to Roxy Music ready for release - this has been more work than our previous two releases combined. I feel a little bit of hesitation in touting the album here, which is kind of odd given how proud I am of it and the fact that there are numerous list members who appear on the record (see * below for some of them), but I will cast those feelings aside. We are finally able to start taking pre-orders for Take Refuge In Pleasure: The Songs of Roxy Music Revisited. The official release date is September 15, 2009. There will be some copies of the 15-track, one-disc version available for sale in select stores and through our www.burningskyrecords.com website. If, you order from us, I will make sure that you have your copies in your hands no later than September 15th, if not before. (I would make sure, in fact, that Avalon friends get theirs sooner). :) The 42-track, 3-CD Deluxe & Delightful Edition will ONLY be available through www.burningskyrecords.com. We are targeting a September 15th release date for the Deluxe & Delightful Edition, as well. This is a very Limited Edition release there will only be approximately 700 copies made available to the public. I do expect for the Deluxe & Delightful Edition to sell out, so I did want to alert those of you here before the word really gets out. You can see the complete track and artist listing on the burningskyrecords.com website. I hope you'll agree that it's a very cool 3-disc set! We are also thrilled to post a new song on our MySpace profile for your listening pleasure. (www.myspace.com/songsofroxymusicrevisited). Please check out the track that will open both versions of the Take Refuge In Pleasure: The Songs of Roxy Music Revisited UK band NOMAD 67 and their rocking cover of one of the greatest Roxy Music tracks of all time. Re-make/Re-model!!!! NOMAD 67 is a young, up-and-coming English band, and they bring a ton of youthful energy to their cover of Re-make/Re-model, while still paying appropriate tribute to the classic original version. Just like the original, the song hits you like a slap in the face, and perfectly sets the table for the songs that follow. I hope that you'll like it. I also hope that you'll pre-order a copy of either the one-disc or 3-disc releases. With no new Roxy album on the immediate horizon, I hope you'll agree that "Take Refuge In Pleasure: The Songs of Roxy Music Revisited" is not a bad "next best thing." *Some of the Avalon list members who will appear on the album include: - -Ron, Cor, and Leslie, of Re-make/Re-model, who do a splendid, stripped-down cover of "The Bob (Medley)" as "Re-Make" - it is a dream come true for me to have them on this release after seeing them perform in Rotterdam almost 10 years ago! - -Johnny Reece, who also appears on "The Bob (Medley)" (A must-hear!) :) - -Barry de Foyle, who does a cover of "I Thought" on the "Roxy Progeny" disc that sounds like what it would have sounded like had Brian Eno recorded the track himself - -Oliver Whawell, who with his band The Strawberry Thieves, does a lovely sax-based instrumental cover of "Frontera." Oliver is also largely responsible for the two bands from the Grammar School at Leeds who appear on the "Roxy Progeny" disc (Jazz in 6ths do a wonderful cover of "Skill and Sweat" and Out of the Blue do a delightfully cheeky cover of "War Brides") Cheers, Alan ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Jun 2009 18:39:56 +0200 From: cor broersen Subject: RE: [AVALON] Take Refuge In Pleasure: The Songs of Roxy Music Revisited Available for Pre-Order > -Ron, Cor, and Leslie, of Re-make/Re-model, who do a splendid, > stripped-down cover of "The Bob (Medley)" as "Re-Make" - it is a dream come > true for me to have them on this release after seeing them perform in > Rotterdam almost 10 years ago! hi All, cor blimey! here, The gig that Alan mentioned here is the Jungle in Scheveningen after Bryan Ferry did the Den Hague show in 2000, As a fact, he and Johnny were the very first not dutch avalonians that came to check us out. It was the first RRgig with John Stark on guitar and at that night Reecey knew he wanted us to do a London show. It was the coldest june day ever that I remember. (if you like to see who the first Avalonians pictured at a RRgig were and also my first gig with RR go see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wz2kxSGRZhQ ) As for the Bob medley, we made a completely new musical score and used only Bryan's Lyrics and some very minor re-make/re-model, the song, inclusions. Johnny as always is Fabulous! And friends, this is nothing like Roxy's Bob (medley) and certainly not a cover, more like a remix remodeled. Alan, congratulations on the progress. Ive heard a lot of great covers so far and confident that the Album and Box will be fabulous! cheers, Cor Blimey! _________________________________________________________________ Gratis emoticons voor in je Messenger! http://www.msnmessengerexperience.nl/chuck/ ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V13 #86 **************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
