I think addiction becomes the muse for many artists, and translates to "love" in the lyrics for the masses. More than this I know there's nothing. (viz / sic) I do find Roxy / Duran comparisons irritating, but at the same time I agree that they (DD)were, perhaps a decade earlier, precisely the kind of urban lads with a cinematic eye who embraced the Roxy look and sound with gusto ...Like so many of us... - -----Original Message----- From: owner-avalon@smoe.org [mailto:owner-avalon@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Chandla911@aol.com Sent: 22 September 2008 10:36 To: avalon@smoe.org Subject: [AVALON] Roxy Duran Nexus Martin Stockman said (a lot of clever and true things as always) but also said: I met Nick Rhodes and Roger Taylor (is that their names?) in the Green Room at The Tube around 1988 and they were coked up Brummie flakes without an original thought in their heads. To compare them with the intellectual rigour of Ferry, Mackay, Eno, Nick de Ville et al... All of the above may very well be and I am no advocate of drugs (Just Say No, kids), but if we took against music artists just because of the amount of powder they put up their noses during their first decade of success, whither Ferry or Bowie? Sure the old marching powder spurred Bowie on to having all sorts of fascinating but essentially stupid proto-Nazi and/or alien-abduction fantasies, but weren't all the delays in Roxy music (sic) due in no small part to a drug-addled perfectionist in the studio unable to stop dabbling with a bass part and get on with the job in hand? No-one is comparing intellectual rigour but my own perception on meeting J Taylor and L Bon was that they had a greater understanding of what unites all of us Avalonians than one might first surmise...
