My tuppenyworth ... Jobson has aged better than anyone ... looks like a succsful architect ... could never stand his prog-rock look when he joined....all that frizzy hair ....so unRoxy! I think Eno was very even-handeed and, as ever, articulate. Especially in discussing how Bryan came from the soul tradition as opposed to denim-clad rock. Of course he added to the Roxy "soup" but all appear to agree that it was untenable to have him remain; musically and intellectually. Manzo's recollection of being distraught at Eno's exit is no doubt heartfelt but he gladly took the Ferry dollar for another 10 years. I think Bracewell is the man who best explains the zeitgist, and best conveys the wonder. I think Manzo and Mackay are uncharacteristically graceless about later Roxy. Mainfesto and F+B are patchy but Avalon remains a masterpiece. Where it goes wrong is dressing up M&M in garish new rormantic gear and having falcons swoop around their portly frames. I can imagine that that was a challenge! The last few dates on the Avalon tour feels rather bloody. Fall of Rome and all that. No mention of Dr Puxley's influence - rather an oversight I think. Especially when Richard Williams is eulogising about BF as a lyricist. I think Sid Viscious used the C word as a term of endearment! Duran Duran were faux Roxy who got lucky. Bryan's glamour was only of interest to a very tiny minority of 70s urbanites yet Duran's success coincided with 80s excess. I met Nick Rhodes and Roger Taylor (is that their names?) in the Green Room at The Tube around 1988 and they were coked up Brummie flakes without an original thought in their heads. To compare them with the intellectual rigour of Ferry, Mackay, Eno, Nick de Ville et al... The Chic connection has often been discussed on these pages and, until now, the veracity of the argument, and the chronology of events, has never sunk in. I loved that Studio 54 sound but never in my wildest dreams saw the link to my favourite band. To see and hear Nile Rogers explaining that Roxy was such a direct influence amazed and thrilled me. Great rock A list - yes, I include Steve Jones! - assembled to throw garlands at the band. The film of the band in the studio 2 years ago was edge of seat stuff. Eno hugely charming about the "event." But what of the snippets of music ... you're tantalising me!!!! Surreal. I wonder how many of us will play over and over that 1 minute section hoping to piece together the first Roxy original music for decades!! Marvellous to see John O'Brien credited on the show. Either it's a DVD tree,( US volunteer here!) or Maybe... Anyone know of a FREE UK service provider? Here in the Colonies (and these days I'm stressing the colon part, but don't get me on politics) one can sign up for say AOL for free and get limited use and a snowstorm of adverts. Suggestion? I am, so totally, tantalized! Regards, R. Deagle ************** Looking for simple solutions to your real-life financial challenges?
