Once again, I shall be otherwise engaged as I have agreed, ahem, to take my daughter to see, ahem mumble, the Jonas Brothers... Incidentally and totally OT, Russell Brand was hysterically funny on the MTV VMA Awards this week. He constantly goaded the Jonas Brothers about their proclaimed choice to wear purity rings (eg "That's insane. They could have sex with any woman on the planet right now. That's like Superman saying I know I have super powers but I choose to go everywhere by bus"); George Bush ("Please please please elect Barack Obama as your next President. There are some people, I think they're called racists, who say that America is not ready to elect a black President. But I know America to be a forward-thinking tolerant country. I mean, you elected that retarded cowboy President for 8 whole years. Back home, we wouldn't trust him with a pair of scissors"; and, er, he proclaimed Britney Spears as the new Christ ("I've seen her stigmata!"). Asked where he got off criticising Bush, Brand said "I was quoting my personal belief that your country should be governed as democratically as possible". Asked why, he said "I see Republicanism as akin to pure evil". When it was mentioned that the UK has a Prime Minister who was not directly elected, Brand said "Well, let's face it, even a democracy is a complete farce, we need to return to Socialism as soon as possible". He may win hearts and minds of Americans, he may have freaked them (those that watched) out altogether, lucrative film contracts may be being ripped up as we speak...
