Subject: [AVALON] Bryan Ferry plagiarist?

Pete Mitchell, standing in for Janice Long, on Radio 2 last night  
interviewed "fount of all musical knowledge" Professor Timothy English of New  Jersey, 
USA, by telephone to discuss instances of plagiarism in popular  contemporary 
music. 
 
Although they concentrated on the songs of Green Day and similarities to  
work by the Kinks, Oasis and...Petula Clark, they mentioned other examples  
offered by radio listeners. These included the claim that Bryan Ferry had stolen  
Trash from Blue Oyster Cult's Don't Fear The Reaper.
 
Apart from the style of guitar intro, I wonder if the radio listener  
concerned had ever listened to more than a few seconds in, but you can hear the  
context of this claim by going to _www.bbc.co.uk/radio2_ 
(http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2)  and choosing to  Listen Again. The interview started around 12.45am on 
August 12, so about 45  minutes into the recording? 
 
Please note you need to request Listen Again to Janice  Long, even though 
it's Pete Mitchell who is broadcasting and you need to jump  ahead to get to the 
plagiarism interview lest you hear the rather embarrassing  interview with Jim 
Bowen.
