I guess you're probably like me, feeling fatigue and an ebbing sense of patience for the supposed 2008 release of the new Roxy album. Here we are in June, and no rumour, no announcement, no apparent tour being arranged. It's getting to the point where I'd advise releasing half of the songs as instrumentals and have done with it! In the meantime, does anyone have a collection of those hideous and hilarious 'Top of the Pops Vol.X' versions of the early Roxy singles? I used to collect them but threw them out a few years ago and now I regret it. Also, there were numerous wannabe TOTP disc collections, also 'not by the original artists' - anyone collect these? Perhaps we should compile the worst, label it, "Roxy - The Pig-Iron Collection", and post it to Bryan? Maybe a good laugh would clear that logjam! The Hot Hits album is by MFP. A family member had her 50th birthday party last month and I was looking out some old facts and figures of her teenage years. I wanted some pictures to decorate the walls at the party and tried to get some decent ones of the old TOTP albums. I also tried to track down a certain copy that I was given as a Christmas present when I was young. I could visualize the cover and remembered quite a few of the songs on it but my mother had binned it many years ago. I recall being horrified that it wasn't the real artists but couldn't appear ungrateful to my parents as money was tight. Anyway, spent ages looking and suddenly realised it was not a TOTP album but a "Hot Hits" compilation which were similar to the TOTP albums. They were made by "Pickwick". I found a picture and the track list and I could instantly hear the songs in my head. They were pretty awful; some of the versions were very amusing. It would be interesting to hear the Roxy covers. I only came across a couple for both Roxy & Ferry in my search, Virginia Plain and All I Want Is You plus Smoke Gets in Your Eyes and Let's Stick Together. There could be more but that's the ones I found copies of the album covers for. If anyone wants a visual reminder drop me a mail off list.
