The film is a must for all Avalonia. Yes it could have been trimmed by half an hour and, yes, I think the "look" of 72 (Ferry / Joe's RM quiff) drifts up the decade towards Bowie's Young Americans. Yet I think that's forgivable. (Its hard to imagine how unlike Roxy most of the audiences were in 72/73! Yes there were one or two imitators come Stranded / Country Life but most of the audience were long haired denim prog-rockers or Oxford bags and tank tops.) The scene in Ruth's bedroom with If There Is Something is, as Philip says, haunting and uplifting. At first as she puts the needle in the groove and finds Andy's mid-section squeaky sax, the volume is set to background. Then, oh still my beating heart, she turns up the dial on the Dansette, and the full sound, the full rush, enveloped the bedroom and our cinema auditorium. Jonathan, Jocelyn, Lindsey (of these pages) and I squirmed in our seats with unbearable pleasure! The effect is reprised in the final minutes of the movie with similarly thrilling results. I, and I'm sure many other Roxy fools, had the bitter-sweet flashbacks to playing this song loud in my suburban bedroom, aged 14, and knowing nothing would ever move me so much again. The chronology is all out, is it 70's, 80 's,? - they all should be at least 10 years older in the last segment , - South Africa does not pass for 70's England. - where do you get waves like that in the summer in England? and the light is wrong. However, the ITIS sequences are rather moving , and I'd reccommend the movie for these alone. And Daniel Craig. , another good reason to see. So who is worthy of the Ferry treatment?? There's? been some great music in that period so...over to you! Here are my nominations: The Wild Ones (Suede) Love is a Losing Game (Amy Winehouse) Bad Ambassador (Divine Comedy) Nice Dream (Radiohead) Superstar (Superstar) J ________________________________________________________________________ AOL's new homepage has launched.
