Hi Sjaak (and all), it's from Monday 28th October 1974, in Newcastle, which was the last UK Country Life Tour gig (the 2nd night in Newcastle). I was there, with 5 friends. I'm sure there were more on this list who were there too, right Joc ? Oh yes, Row B16 both nights (still have the stubs) - but then I did sleep out overnight for my front rowB tickets. I'd only do that now if I had a bundle of Big Issues to keep me warm. I'd just debunked to Manchester in the Summer of that year to study Graphic Design, and no sooner was I thereB than I was off on tour,B finally finding my way back home for the two nights at Newcastle - I'm sure my motherB thought home sickness had drawn me back. Just as you remember your travels Reecey, I remember our outfits, all 1940's frocks,B sunglasses and evening gloves - oh and diamante earrings were de rigour. And this wasn't the last bootleg recording I've probably ruined in my over exuberant time! I vaguely remember beingB completely hoarse afterwards with all that Roxying. And what I'd give to hear a Beauty Queen rendition live again - even a remade-remodelled version. And Reecey, after your tales of car chasing I've officially upgraded you from Entertainment SocialB in my survey to Borderline Pathological! I'm sure there were more on this list who were there too, right Joc ? The Geordie way Bryan says 'Newcastle' sounds a little like 'Glasgow' - but isn't. It does sound like he says, quietly, at the end of the sentence, 'in Glasgow' - - but he's actually saying the word 'Newcastle'. Also, 'Eskimos and Geordies' later on, also gives it away. At Glasgow, as an old battered tape made by my friend and schoolmate Kutchy proved at the time, in Glasgow he said 'Eskimos and Glaswegie'. He only uttered this on the Country Life Tour (the 'Glaswegie' bit). Incidentally - Roxy did NOT play the Apollo, Glasgow, on Saturday 26th October, as is widely reported in so many places. This was a day off for the Band. They did just 3 nights in Glasgow - Wednesday to Friday, 23rd, 24th, 25th, as I attended all of them. To be painfully (and rather ridiculously) precise, K22 Stalls Weds, K23 Stalls Thurs, and Box L seat 1 on the Friday. (Anorak spot - the middle Glasgow night was the only Glasgow one where Bryan wore the 'Gaucho' outfit - it was the Airline Pilot look, for the other 2 nights). Oh, and a kilt for the encores only, btw. Later that same 'middle' Glasgow evening, the remains of TGPTs bass drum skin could be seen in the Albany Hotel Bar (really), being presided over by worried technicians - he smashed it halfway though the set, and had to use the miniscule replacement one, from The Jess Roden Band for the second half of the gig - It was fixed for Friday night though, courtesy of a little help from people from a music shop in Glasgow at the time, called Wm. Thomsons, who did a patch up job for them on the Friday morning, new Logo and all. It broke near the end of 'Song For Europe', and the replacement tiny Jess Roden one was brought on stage during the only time they could have done it - when drums were not required - which was during 'Dream Home', several songs later. They travelled to Newcastle around 12 noon on Saturday 26th - no Gig. We drove down too :) - not a stones throw behind, in 2 cars. Finally, I'd like to apologise for the dreadful anorakism of the above explanation, there are some things in life for which one retains complete photographic memories, and going to Roxy gigs in my teenage years, is one of them. Oh, and I do realise, this is why I haven't got a proper job. :) Happy Easter everyone, Johnny 'Bloody Anorak' Reece x - --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Hi all, Just wanted to say thanks for the wonderful posts here, I try to read most, but often am weeks behind... It was so much fun to see "You Can Dance" revisited. In late reply to Marks question, of January 2nd; on list, inspired by Hans wonderful thread: > Subject: [AVALON] Andy & Phil on Radio 2 > Did anyone manage to record this onto cd? I was on holiday and missed > the broadcast and don't seem to be able to access it on the website. > > I would be happy to ... Find a BBC-internet-radio-capture here: http://www.4shared.com/file/39196020/9bfc4ccf/20071129_BBC_Radio2_PManzanera-AMcKay_interview.html (Anything Han can do, I can do ... ;-) Colette wrote about the radio program: > On the Ken Bruce show, BBC Radio 2 > > Nothing new said really just the usual "still working on the new > album, Bryan needing to do lyrics, should be out this time next > year.....hopefully" Then Phil laughs and says "don't hold your > breath!!". Then Phil & Andy take part in a little pop quiz. 'Next year' being this year by now. I guess that's the good thing about doing things slowly: radio interviews have a longer shelf life. I hope for diversity itself. It would be wonderful if it could in some way be reminiscent to the first 2 albums... Tara, Anton. - -- Mal: We're still flying. Simon: That's not much. It is a request show and they have a 'theme' for every night. I always try and find a Ferry Roxy song for the show and text it in (Pulling in to a lay by of course to write the text) One evening it was repititon in the title so I sent in Cry Cry Cry & Shame Shame Shame, one night it was birds so I forwarded Nightingale, so you get my drift. On Tuesday it was 'Same Title Different Song' and the only Ferry/Roxy songs I could think of was Sign Of The Times as a differnent song with the same name has been written and recorded by Prince and also The Belle Stars had another song with this name in the 1980's. The other Roxy/Ferry entry was Angel Eyes as ABBA and Wet Wet Wet have both written songs called Angel Eyes. I thought it would be an interesting topic here. Does anyone know of any other song titles WRITTEN by Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music that have been used by other artist. (Not covers of the same songs) J.O'B. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V12 #367 ***************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
