I kind of feel it gets a bad press from fans who lump it in with JG as a 'oh no! Not that one again!' live song. Sure it's familiar to us all but it's a great rousing anthem that Ferry has at least adapted a little during recent live performances and, when listened to objectively, a great record. The problem was that at that time he was also under contract under another label; Savoy. It took a lot of time to finish that contract with Savoy. For that reason Fire waited two years before they released the follow up of Kansas City, "Let's stick together". Att that time everyone forgot Harrison so the single was a flop. 7 years later Wilbert tried again to hit the charts with that song but he was a afraid that the label owner of Fire claimed the rights so he rerecorded "Let's stick together" as "Let's work together" and indeed had a little hit with it. Most cover versions followed the let's work together version. Only Bryan Ferry seemed to remember the first version. In the early 80's Bob Dylan covered also let's stick together. Although Ferry's version comes very close to the original there are some little aspects in Ferry's version wich gives it that extra sparkle that makes the difference: The sax and Jerry (ok i know she isn't it) at the end and that clip: still a classic. Let's work together sound as well close to the original but misses the percusion in the background and the essential part (at about 23 sec in the original) wich makes it a bit flat. Ahhh, come on, let's work together... Well now, make someone happy Make someone smile Let's all work together And make life worthwhile Let's work together Come on, come on Let's work together (Now now people) Because together we will stand Every boy, girl, woman and man Oh well now, come on you people Walk hand in hand Let's make this world of ours A good place to stand And work together Come on, come on Let's work together (Now now people) Because together we will stand Every boy, girl, woman and man Well now together we will stand Every boy, girl, woman and man ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Feb 2008 12:18:11 -0500 From: "K B Porter" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Ferry uncoverd Let's Stick Together, Wilbert Harrison ..."but it's a great rousing anthem..." Even better is "Stagger Lee" performed by Wilbert Harrison. The following link is to a 'video' of such. (Unfortunately, Mr.Ferry probably could not do justice to this piece without an extensive rework - the 'edgy-ness' required for Mr. Harrison's rendition is no longer within Mr. Ferry's ability. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAmDxxLV_vw ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Feb 2008 17:46:39 -0000 From: Subject: RE: [AVALON] Bums and Roses Don't Drink and Drive - take Drugs and Fly.
