Written by Roosevelt Jamison. It was covered in the same year by Otis Redding. And after that by Rolling Stones (1965) , Percy Sledge (1966) , Hollies (1966) , Sweet Inspiration (1967) , Eddy Giles (1969) , Steve Young (1969) , Candi Staton (1970) , Georgie Fame & Alan Price (1971) among others. When That's How Strong My Love Is became a big hit for Otis Redding, Duke/Peacock label boss Don Robey came to the Goldwax office to take away O.V. Wright. Robey knew Wright as an ex member of gospel group The Sunset Travelers he cut sides on. The little words in his contract stipulated Duke/Peacock acquired all rights on all later recordings of each individual band member. Goldwax' reaction was countered in pure mob style. O.V. remained in Robey's hands for the rest of his career. Look at all his hits: every title is followed by this sinister credit to D. Malone (Robey's alias). Those where the days! I like the ov wright version, classic sixties soul who stood the test of time, nice organ and what a voice! Ferry version is different and is very close to Otis version. Beautiful sax in Bryans version.
