He did say in those interviews with Richard Skinner in 1985 that he wanted to keep to the music rather than act, although he would do more things like IYLSE if the circumstances were right. Then this Bond thing appeared around the time he was promoting Bete Noire, a couple of years later. Would he have been more interested had he known how badly Bete Noire was going to do compared with Boys and Girls? Just a few years later he was trying and failing to get a role in Cliffhanger. He said Stallone didn't want him in it. Maybe it's close call. The publicity and probably income of being a Bond would have been immense for the rest of his career. But "here's the new album from ex James Bond Bryan Ferry" would have been a shame - I prefer "ex Roxy Music frontman" myself. Obviously he'd be a natural for the "vodka martini" lines - but harder to imagine him emerging from some alligator infested swamp in a diving suit. That could be an idea for his next cover art. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Feb 2008 10:34:22 -0000 From: "Martino" Subject: RE: [AVALON] Bond Rob etc I think this is a non-discussion. Yes BF had the cruel and handsome look of Fleming's Bond, and I'm sure someone in Cubby Broccoli's office floated the idea of exploring the notion based on a photograph, but the whole idea is a non-starter as Ferry himself clearly understood. He can't act, he can't dance, he's nervous, he's a nightmare to work with! I'm laughing at the thought that we're even discussing it, let alone imagining record reviews containing "former James Bond has a new album out" etc... Lets get a grip here! Tino PS Am reading John Pearson's superb "James Bond: The Authorised Biography" at the moment. Highly recommended .. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Feb 2008 06:12:12 EST From: LeeSullivanart@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Bond In a message dated 11/02/2008 10:47:31 GMT Standard Time, martinstockman@btinternet.com writes: Rob etc I think this is a non-discussion. Even for a Bond theme, if he were commissioned now, you're probably talking next Bond actor but one :) It's an interesting contradiction; he's often likened his songwriting approach to that of Porter et al, but that's exactly the way in which he doesn't work.
