["philip77@tiscali.co.uk" Subject: [AVALON] Questions? How would all you folks out there in Avalonia feel about Roxy bringing in another lyricist in to help get the album on the way. Ferry has been publicly complaining it's been the lyrics that have been causing him problems since 1975. 32 years later has he really got anything left to say? Even the lyrics on "Frantic" seemed to have come from years before. So my questions are: How do you feel about another lyricist/ghost writer? Would it be real Roxy or fake Roxy? Strictly confidential answer from the empire's borders For what it matters, I'm an italian native speaker. So U can agree, when I was 16 my english was not that well and listening for the first time for your pleasure album, what thrilled me, was the sound! no jokes! There were no lyrics at all in the folder of the LP so I was just mumbling when I was karaoking the songs... At the time we had no idea that "karaoking" was what we were doing :-) I had to wait for decades to know that there was an inflatable doll swimming in Bryan's pool :-))) But that was Roxy for me!!! That new sound!!! Bryan's voice + the band's arrangements!!! In Stranded and Country Life albums I found Roxy lyrics but in Siren and Manifesto not anymore.... They sounded like Roxy (well Manifesto sounded for half the record as crappy as disco music is ) and that was all that mattered to me. Anyway it was a big disappointment see lyrics not written by Ferry on Flesh+Blood! At the time I was thinking that only Bryan Ferry's records should have covers .. Roxy records should have been only for original stuff... Don't take me wrong... I love Neil Young but , hell ,he is far from Roxy as Caravaggio is far from Wharol ,for sod sake! Now that I married an english native speaker and I improved my english, the exotic aura of the lyrics faded away , just a little. I don't expect Ferry to write about the big planet problems, and , by the way he is for fox hunting! That pisses me off a lot! but I can take it, if he still writes about the zeit geist, the mood of the century.. Yep, I'm here waiting for a new Do the XXI cent. strand! I guess that , " to keep it in the family ", Eno could help him to reconnect to the futuristic spirit that is flesh and blood of Roxy's music! For waht I'm concerned I whish that Ferry would play obliques strategies and find some sort of inspiration in it. take care guys the usual boring old bogus Dan still mumbling "lou kunusku" instead of "look trough who's who" ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Nov 2007 14:59:07 -0000 From: Subject: RE: [AVALON] Questions? How do you feel about another lyricist/ghost writer? I can't see it I just can't. The Roxy thing has always been a concept, a totality. The lyrics, the style, the class. Although I guess Roxy did do a couple of covers on Flesh and Blood. I'd prefer no album came out than one where the lyrics came from another writer. "looking for love in a looking glass world" - "your dressed to kill and guess who's dying" - " you and me we're just like night and day - the here and now - the ghost of yesterday" - "you run through here with your words of sand" More of that please. They could use movie quotes from films noirs and some from literature and from commercials, some name dropping here and there, mix them all together... and hey presto! Not that different from how they started. - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: "'Terence OConnor'" ; Sent: Saturday, November 17, 2007 3:59 PM Subject: RE: [AVALON] Questions? > How do you feel about another lyricist/ghost writer? > > > I can't see it I just can't.
