I enjoyed this unique event enormously -- huge thanks to Andrew Shearer who linked me up with 2 unused tickets. I think someone should mention; (1) The V&A lecture theatre was packed (you allude to it but I'd like to say it straight out!). I saw one lady who'd turned up in the hope of a spare ticket turned away at the desk. Complete sell out. (Of course it is a fairly small theatre!) (2) Where you perceived Ferry as nervous, I thought he was *relatively* relaxed (compared to some other interviews) and assumed this was because he and Bracewell have talked a lot before. And, one assumes BF knew he wasn't going to get asked any dumb questions related to, say, Nazism, or Jerry Hall. (3) Yes Ferry rambled but mostly interestingly. Bracewell should have worked just a little harder to rein him in, but he seemed to lose motivation to do so half way through. (4) In retrospect, I think Bracewell's question about the Roxy album at the end, and Ferry's reply, were likely almost scripted in advance. The pair had spent an hour or more unearthing facts, and ending on a question mark seemed very deliberate to me. In other words, the "door is always is open" vagueness which I took to be almost a "no, it isn't likely to happen" may have been more negative than the reality. I hope! (5) Led by the gang at front left, Ferry was given a standing ovation at the end. Quite right too. And a question: can anyone remember who the living artist was whom Ferry wasn't allowed to do his dissertation on? The book does not enlighten us on that point, and I'd really like to know! Sorry, I think my previous post was a bit misleading. The emptiness wasn't due to Ferry's lack of pulling power it was because the entire weekender wasn't advertised anywhere other than the Puno website (which was a bugger to open at the best of times) and was overpriced. I think the organisers misjudged that the 2 day event would publicise itself through word of mouth to extend the Ibiza club season. I was chatting to Ticketweb's London rep and Puno's organiser and they were both saying it was an investment in the future. My Marrakechi taxi driver informed me they expect 10 million tourists by 2010 and they obviously see the Club Scene as a future bankroller. Pascha Marrakech (co-sponsors) itself has thousands turn up every weekend, but this event priced the locals out of the market even with 50% discount for residents. I went because I loved the line up - although Thievery Corporation were pulled, but The Egg were a revelation and Coldcut could whip up a party atmosphere in an empty broomcupboard. They did an amazing video mash-up soul version of Walk a Mile in My Shoes, and even got the VIPs on their feet to the weirdest mix of Jump Around I've ever heard. And the DJ line-up was great - Felix from Basement Jaxx and Claude Challe brought the house (well, small bungalow) down. I thought Ferry was a very strange addition to the line-up and the type of chill out club thing they were trying to put on, but everyone who was there loved his set. And Ferry was beside himself with pleasure being back in the "magnificent city I've been coming to since the year I recorded Bride Stripped Bare". It was my first (of what I hope will be many) trips to Marrakech and one I'd promised myself for the past two years. Lolling around on the sunbaked roof terrace of my Medina riad sipping mint tea and reading Remake Remodel, while the Ferry souncheck whaffed across from the nearby El Badi palace and storks circled overhead, it doesn't get much better. So fret thee not Rob, Ferry can still pull, enjoy it, get paid for, get put up in his favourite hotel and look forward to the next one. It's just that the organisers need to organise themselves better. (AM) I am keeping it under wraps until closer to performances next year but I can let you know that it will be Andy Mackay + Metaphors. The Metaphors are Tim Allen, Andy Mackay, Hazel Mills, Paul Thompson and Julia Thornton . The album title is "London! New York! Paris! Rome! ". These are the working details it is possible they may change." So what's wrong with Munich then Andy? Looking forward to hearing further details.
