But the pompous tone you adopt below made me splutter tea at my computer screen this morning, being far in excess of whatever small significance Eno's political commentary can justify. You come over like some olde-worlde agit-prop teenager, comically convinced that his favourite pop records will save the world from despotism. Eno has put his name to a variety of political causes, and joined the ranks of the international conscience brigade. Such direct action may even do some good, somehow, but his feeble music? It's hardly going to propel angry youth over the barricades. We are then told that those who lack Eno's fierce commitment to fighting evil in the world should flee to the fluffy delights of the new Eno-Fripp collection, presumably as it's a safe haven from nasty grown-up politics and the hard realities of life in Russell Mills' angry conscience. Mmmm, Fripp-and-Eno, lovely, yes indeed - I''ve always particularly adored 'Swastika Girls', myself, in whose whirling musical arms I can cavort in dreamy union with haughty Germanic madames in the brothels of the Third Reich. Politics in music - - dontcha just love it! My only guess could be that their collaboration at the 'Stop the war coalition' gig (check out the DVD- very interesting and the first time I have seen him on stage for a long long time) has led to further sonic dabblings. Eno spent most of the gig playing with samples in the background with Leo stood next to him.
