Lately I've been reacting quite sincerely to most posts. I admit some of my remarks in the last few years have been silly, but whenever someone deserves a serious reaction, I'll give it to them! So I'm afraid everytime I made a joke it's actually been the fault of the one I was reacting to. ;-) - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: ; Sent: Thursday, October 11, 2007 5:56 PM Subject: Re: [AVALON] "Taxi is a pile of Quiche" > See I misunderstood the reference. Hi J Firstly, the Dylanesque release does not have the same energy that the live performances possess. I think the very nature of its quick production detracts from its impact. The only "release" of live material I can refer to is the BBC session back in February & the masterful rendition of "To Make You Feel My Love" for Princess Diana at Wembley. I think his live performances of the Dylan songs have been far more vibrant than the CD. However, in my experience introducing "Dylanesque" to people in Eastern Europe, Turkey, Greece, South Africa & good ol' East London who previously appreciated nothing about BF/Roxy have suddenly said it's the best set of music they've heard for years. My own 23 year-old daughter (who does rate BF/Roxy highly, obviously) earlier this year told me she prefers Guns'n'Roses version of "Knocking On Heaven's Door" but I have been surprised lately to find her listening to "Dylanesque" quite often whenever I visit her. My Eastern European friends tell me that BF obviously sings from the heart. QED - even though I personally do not think "Dylanesque" is a masterpiece, it certainly is way better than "a pile of keech". My real quibble about this thing is that his new low-key success touring this set is delaying new Roxy Music release. The song has an interesting history, described in a few places (including Wikipedia) but this one's probably better than most. Enjoyed hearing that Jimmie Davis recording - thanks.
