We, on the other hand, (being proper fans), arrived empty handed without so much as a packet of cheesey Doritos or a bottle of Evian between the three of us, decided that we should retire to the local pub while the picnicking masses deployed their wares within the school grounds. So, after a refreshment we eventually we found ourselves in the beautiful setting of Repton School in Derby, the oldest English public school founded in the 16th century around the time of king Henry 111V. The late evening sunshine casting shadows over the ancient school buildings with their tall typically Georgian chimneys setting the perfect scene for an evenings entertainment from the coolest crooner on Earth. Sitting high on the stone steps adjacent to the thatched roofed cricket pavilion (which was temporarily the concerts production room) and above the sports field which surrounded the fenced off and immaculately mown cricket pitch, we surveyed the scene below us as the crowds set out their picnics with an assortment of multi coloured rugs, chairs, and with the tables adorned with an assorted feast of goodies, wines and bottles of champagne. We said our "Good Evenings" to Colin Good as he, along with other members of the band and the summer bedecked fashionable pretty young ladies that strolled past us, flashed their passes to the gentlemanly, grey haired, bow-tied and suitably suited security man before their being allowed access into the pavilion. As it became nearer to nine o`clock the crowd started to move close up towards the stage in eager anticipation. We joined the polite melee as the vibrant opening lines of "The In Crowd" boomed towards us and the show began. Mr Ferry, in his usual dark sparkling suit bounded onstage, in fine form, smiling, waving and getting the crowd cheering and clapping, foot tapping and swaying from the start. Mr Spedding looking quite austere with his close cut haircut, looking evermore like the fifties man from the fairground rides with that air and look about him that gave one the impression that the appropriate authority had just released him back into the community on the condition that "he behaves himself". The by now familiar set list ensued, and of course a lot of the audience were unaware of the likes of "When She Walks.."(involuntary you find yourself scanning the crowd trying to spot the people that might be familiar with this and other songs from his back catalogue). I was slightly surprised though the amount of people who were singing along with "A Hard Rain" although of course no-one, including myself, ever seems to completely master the lyrics - indeed Mr Ferry himself, staring at the lyric sheet on or around the sixth verse hesitating and stumbling onto the next. No-one I saw noticed or commentated. They were too busy enjoying the moment. Andy Newmark throughout was in fine form, a really tight performance, confident, and even I spotted him in one instant twirling a drum-stick in the air in between beats - not seen him do this before and quite impressive. All too soon though the encore "Hold On" was upon us and the show was at an end. The crowd obviously thoroughly enjoyed it. Suddenly, it seems BF appears to be more and more appreciated by the larger public - are they at last taking him to heart? Lately, quite a few people I know, although not fans commented to me unprovoked how good they thought his performance was at Wembley. Perhaps they may becoming late secret admirers as well - I hope so. The highpoint of the show? for me it was little Oliver jamming on "All Along the Watchtower" - fabulous he is. The low point? - sitting watching a seemingly poorly middle aged man with a walking stick, struggling to alight the stone steps to buy a beer wearing a FYP tee-shirt. "Oh well", thinks I , "back to the future" Regards to all. N. BTW..... Mark - were you rewarded with Mr Newmarks drumstick? ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 09 Jul 2007 12:28:12 -0400 From: johnobrien001@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Bonus tracks - -----Original Message----- From: Chandla911@aol.com To: avalon@smoe.org Sent: Mon, 9 Jul 2007 10.07am <> There is a picture of my copy of?the Digipack here: http://www.vivaroxymusic.com/news_20070709a.shtml J.O'B. ________________________________________________________________________ Get a FREE AOL Email account with 2GB of storage. Thanks. this is exactly the info I was looking for. ""Nobody's forcing you to buy it"" Well no, they aren't. Though as commited fans, most of us would buy anything connected with BF/Roxy. So when a DVD is released with 'Bonus Tracks' that don't seem to be bonus at all, I want to know 'is there any point to buying it?' when there are copies going around of the original TV prog. I don't have one of those copies, and would prefer to buy an official product anyway. However, if there's no difference between the two, I will opt for the cheaper version. So now I know. I'm off to the shops tomorrow to buy my copy of Dylanesque on DVD. I wrote; 'They' should have included the tracks that weren't on the >Dylanesque CD.' J replied; "Why include tracks not deemed good enough for the album? ..." Or 'they' could put these tracks as b-sides to the singles off the CD, instead of 2 or 3 edits of the same track. Once upon a time, Roxy didn't even want to release a single that was on an album, as they felt they would be ripping off their fans. eg VP, Pyjamarama. J wrote; "No doubt they will be released once Mark Ronson has added some sparkle to them at them production stage" Is this for sure? Are you in the know? Or is it just wishful thinking? And to Chris... ""...and congratulations to Bryan for entering the UK music DVD charts at no.3."" maybe after this info, more people will buy it & boost it up to no.2!!!
