Damn right! Half the fun is jockeying for a good view and tutting loudly at the chatterboxes. ;-) ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 03 Jul 2007 10:16:35 -0400 From: Colleen Matan Subject: Re: [AVALON] Diana concert I'm behind on my email and so didn't see the message that the concert was going to be on VHI, and normally it wouldn't have mattered anyway b/c I don't have cable or satellite service at home. But as luck had it, I'm staying out at my fiance's place for the week, and as I went to sit out on the porch last night with a nightcap to enjoy the spectacular unseasonably cool evening, he said "Oh, look--the Diana concert." We had TiVo do its thing and came back inside once I heard Bryan introduced. I thought it was a great performance considering the venue, and my Ferry/Roxy-less BF seemed to really enjoy it too, especially LST. I commented to him how happy Ferry seemed, and he seemed shocked that that was him being cheerful... After that performamnce I am now doubly sorry we won't be seeing him tour the new album. Received Dylanesque ~ 2 weeks ago, haven't listened yet - only now reading emails from the past 3 weeks - out of reach is out of touch - only checking if I'd missed announcement of US tour dates. Best wishes. It could have been feeble, inaudible, cringe inducing, "what the f*** is he doing" rubbish - like a lot of the rest of the concert. But MYFML and LST saved it from embarrassing oblivion. Given the Live Aid experience it was so brave to do MYFML at all, and to do it so powerfully, so clearly, (I can't quite get the right words to do it justice) was a career triumph IMHO. And a standing ovation for it at a concert? Restores you faith in taste. He might have cocked up in his time, who hasn't? - but at 61 that was absolutely outstanding. Looked and sounded younger than those who try to copy him. What would Simon Le Bon give to be THAT cool? Still receive the avalon digest and read it regularly, but there hasn't been much reason for me to post. Everyone else always seems to say it much better! Anyway, I thought I'd report for my fellow Aussies that Billboard magazine are claiming that BF and band will be heading our way before the year is out. That'll be great if it comes about. (Just not November please, Bryan. I'll be in China, touring with a school group.) It's been almost unbelievable seeing BF on the TV twice in the last week. The Letterman show airs here on Ch10 at the ridiculous time of 1.15am. We get the previous day's show, so the trusty video recorder did the trick for me. Not a bad performance of TTB. Then came the abbreviated version of the Concert for Diana on Ch9...3 hours (including about 2 hours of ads)...one song from each performer. Thank goodness they showed LST. That was a huge hit in Australia, and the way the Wembley crowd reacted to him was brilliant. Loved the longer version of this song. By the way, I agree with several other Avalonians about some of the other acts. Joss was awful, Kanye West should have gone west young man (never to return), Duran Duran...oh dear...We got to see Rod Stewart's performance of Maggie May...have to say I quite enjoyed it. And Bocelli - not a note out of place. P Diddy was ridiculous. And Tom Jones is a great advertisement for 'Just for Men' beard and hair enhancement. He must have used an entire packet on that goatee. I know. I use the stuff myself...not ready for a white beard just yet. Any other Aussies catch the TV performances? Shelley? You still around?
