I realise collecting albums by artists with the same name as Avalon contributors is a stretch, but this album is recommended. And you can listen without cost as it is the featured album on Chiller Cabinet... Sunday 13 April / Thursday 17 CC)cile Schott returns with her third album as Colleen, the seeds for this album were sown when the 15byear-old Schott happened upon the film Tous Les Matins Du Monde, based on the life of Marin Marais, the acclaimed 17th Century viola da gamba (or viol) player and composer. It was the first time Schott had seen or heard a viol. The sound and mystery of the instrument, which remain rooted in the context of period music, set her off on an obsession which reached fruition in 2005 when she found a viola maker to custom-build an instrument for her. She found the viola da gamba more fascinating to play than she had ever imagined. Bowed like a bcello, but with seven strings and fretted like a guitar, the sound produced was so rich and naturally resonant that the loop-based works that had become a defining characteristic of Colleenbs work could be laid to rest. The viola da gamba was supplemented with another Baroque instrument that Schott had dreamed of, the spinet, a smaller relative of the harpsichord. The versatile clarinet was also recruited, mainly due to its jazz connotations, along with Schottbs trusted classical guitar. Crystal glasses were added for percussive effect. And thatbs everything you hear on the album. The albumbs title can be interpreted in a number of ways. bOndesb translates as bstill watersb or bwavesb (as in bsound wavesb), and Schottbs intention was to refer to the quiet stillness of calm waters, which by definition can never be completely at rest. Sunday 2 - 4 am / repeated Thursday 10pm - Midnight - - a two hour mix of ambience, movies, & minimalism. Interestingly, there's no mention of Led Zep in this this series, yet the louche lounge lizard (you know the one we all go on about half the time) is featured and even appears in a collage courtesy of one of four differently covered issues of Radio Times. If you already know all about the show but would just like to see the picture (of all 4 front covers), it's at: _http://www.davidbowie.com/bin/images/html/radio_times_7_ages_480px.jpg _ (http://www.davidbowie.com/bin/images/html/radio_times_7_ages_480px.jpg) Best wishes Richard Mills ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 May 2007 12:19:15 -0400 From: kwil632057@aol.com Subject: [AVALON] Ferry on cover of the Radio Times! This also meant that the extra money i had paid for a front seat was a waste, as it was a free for all, and I got there late. the sound was not so good, but obviously cannot be compared to bham symphony hall! The audience were responsive, mostly czechs but many of us foreigners too. the set list was much the same as recent gigs. no JLY or Casanova, but we did get WSWITR and LMMA, plus Hold On Im Coming as the last song. The security were a joke - 3 guys, but they still stopped me getting to the stage to take a pic. towards the end Bryan signalled the audience to come to front, and already ready at the side of the stage I was first up there, ushering the rest to follow. Then the concert REALLY started for me. I was 3 feet from Bryan and he was loving it as much as we were. Please bryan, get the crowd to up sooner next time. he even said - Where were you. - - we would have loved to be up there from the start .There were a few encores and Hold on was a great track to end on. The 1st time Ive heard it live. looking foward to repton school gig. Oh. Hello to the woman with the blonde hair I was dancing next to. I am the guy with the glasses and the Dylanesque tshirt. It's got to be a triumph to appear on this iconic magazine, which has been part of the British culture since the days of black and white TV. The cover promotes the Seven Ages of Rock to be broadcast on Saturday BBC2. What makes this cover interesting is that it is one of 4 different covers, (Think they did this for Live 8) All four covers featuring 3 or 4 artisits on each cover join up to make one big poster. The poster can be ordered for #7.50 www.ssprints.com I have picked up a few copies for fans outside the U.K. and would be happy to post them for a trade.
