Check out his mid-1980s interview with Roger Scott recently released as part of the Capital Gold Rewind podcasts (free on iTunes); 11 minutes into it you get some 40 seconds of high praise for Ferry. And Neil Tennant, too, I suppose. He chose the artists for the Noel Coward tribute album and said that he only wanted 'the best.' He's perhaps not quite as famous, but Elliott Murphy was also very enthusiastic about Ferry when I mentioned Roxy Music to him. In fact Avalon is one of his all-time favorite albums and he hired Spedding and Newmark to work with him because of their Ferry connections. This is quite surprising from someone whose music is clearly more in the folk-rock/singer-songwriter tradition, though in his early days he was sometimes compared to Bryan, too (I think because of his sophisticated lyrics and sense of style). His playboy tendencies are widely documented - during the past year he's been linked to Lisa Snowden, Abi Titmuss, Denise Van Outen and Patsy Kensit. So it comes as no surprise to hear that Little Britain star David Walliams's role model is a veteran lounge lizard. "Bryan Ferry is my absolute idol," he tells me. "He just sums up everything I admire. I know I should probably tell you that the person I'm most in awe of is some amazing charity worker who spends his time helping the poor in Africa, but I'm afraid Bryan really tops everyone in my eyes." ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 May 2007 07:55:30 -0600 (MDT) From: david@neustudio.com Subject: [AVALON] Little Bryan Ferris Buehler dave n. new jersey ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 May 2007 18:40:20 +0100 From: "Martin Stockman" Subject: RE: [AVALON] Little Bryan? Am thrilled that this thread has been such a blast. However, I think it must be more than, say, someone who covered a Roxy track 20 years ago. For me its all relevant if a) it's a current admiration (Soho is awash with folks who think BF lost it in 73) b) the admiration is about BF as an icon.... (ie not someone who likes making out to Avalon) c) they themselves are fairly cool. I'm afraid (c) rules out Clarkson, most footballers, Brian May, although I accept Ian McShane - Lovejoy is Life On Mars in the country!. With regard t0 (a) there's lots on this list that I worry about ... Ross, Bowie ... are they early Roxy or la vie Ferry? ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 May 2007 20:15:13 +0200 From: "Michiel van Sleen" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Little Bryan?
