["Michiel van Sleen" Subject: RE: [AVALON] Hamburg - what happened? I enjoyed the Brighton show but felt he could have done another track after LST, in fact it was quite a short set list that night and looking at viva the Hamburg gig looked similarly short. It's a brave setlist and not really dancing stuff, hard rain, Watchtower, OK but only really LST is guaranteed to get the crowd up. I bet a lot of people are turning up expecting a setlist like this: A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues The Times They Are A-Changin' Postively 4th Street Knockin' On Heaven's Door Simple Twist Of Fate Make You Feel My Love Gates Of Eden All Along The Watchtower Its all over now baby blue Slave to Love Don't Stop the Dance Dreamhome Heartache Tokyo Joe Casanova Street Life Love Is The Drug Virginia Plain Let's Stick Together Jealous Guy .....and whilst we might rave about Love me madly and When she Walks in the Room the general public who've paid exepensive prices to see the cool ruler aren't. I left Glasgow thinking "that was brilliant" but on the way some old bat said "that was awful, that wasn;t Bryan Ferry". The fact that it WAS rather than Roxy was lost on her. I think he;s due great credit from us "mental" fans for doing this setlist, but he might have to make some alterations before these outdoor Summer events to keep the crowd going. rob - -----Original Message----- From: owner-avalon@smoe.org [mailto:owner-avalon@smoe.org] On Behalf Of s p Sent: 04 April 2007 05:27 To: avalon@smoe.org Subject: [AVALON] Hamburg - what happened? Maybe he was disappointed with the audience. This is normally a home game for any BF or RM concert, but the magic was missing that night. Only for the last song LST did the crowd rush to the front - after Bryans third or fourth "invitation" to dance...that could have been down to the fact that the best seats were never for sale (except through Ebay for ridiculous prices) to the fans, but reserved for VIPs etc - correct me if I am wrong... and too many people kept leaving their seats for God knows what, causing a little unrest.. maybe Bryan was missing the appreciation....maybe I am over reacting, and am still annoyed about my seat right at the back... BF's singing was very good (they transposed several songs down, like LMMA, but he didn't eschew higher notes otherwise). As for the setlist, he seems to have realized what a great solo back catalogue he has got. TIE was brilliant, and it was moving to get to hear WTWITR. Some Dylanesque songs sounded even better than on the album. The secret star of the show for me was Leo Abrahams, whose ethereal guitar sonics added some wonderful textures to the music. No encore as such, although it seemed Hard Rain and LST were the "sort-of encores". Maybe he is following Peter Hammill there who regards the encores as not part of the actual concert anymore? Ferry even announced that some of the tracks they were going to play might be unknown to some, and introduced When She Walks... as "another track from the much-maligned Bride Stripped Bare album". Anyway, a rather appreciative audience, and by AATW, many people rushed to the front of the stage.
