Ingredients for a great evening in Amsterdam. First I went to Rotterdam were I had an appointment with Dick and Petra. The we got to Amsterdam and I arrived about 17 o'clock at the HMH. We met Colin Good, walking around the HMH with another man. That man appears to be Ian Dixon as we reconiged him on stage later. Bryan was already in, so we take some (junk-)food and met some other fans hanging around the hall. The programm says: 18:30 Doors open, 20:00 Helen Gooding (supporting act), 20:30 Pause, 21:00 Bryan Ferry and 23:00 The End. So we took our time and entered the HMH about 20:15, bought some coins for drinks and took a look at the merchandise-stand. Programms, T-shirts, (signed) posters, polo-shirts, signed cd"s ( b, 40 !!!), caps, mugs, sjawls, pin-buttons etc.etc.. We decided to buy some after the show. Then we got in. We had tickets for row 2 on the right side of the hall. There were seats only. We already agreed to run to the stage after the photographers made there shots, but we couldn't wait so long and took our place in front of Bryan, followed by many others. The show started with "The 'In' Crowd", followed by "Kiss And Tell". Bryan was in good shape, good voice, dancing, klapping and smiling. "Great to be back here in Amsterdam!!!!". Then: "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues", "Positively 4th Street", "This Island Earth", "The Times They Are A-Changin'", "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" and "Jealous Guy" (why not "Just Like You" !!), "Don't Stop The Dance" and "Love Me Madly Again". Bryan took a break and leaved the stage, making place for an instrumental song, by Ian Dixon on saxofoon. Then Bryan get back with "When She Walks In The Room", "Casanova", "Simple Twist of Fate", "Make You feel My Love", "Gates Of Eden", "Tokyo Joe", "All Along The Watchtower" and "A Hard Rains A-Gonna Fall". We saw on the setlist there was only one song for the encore: "Let's Stick Together". But the crowd was asking for more and "Love Is The Drug" followed and was the last song. The band had a good time. They were very relaxed, smiling and miming with the audience. The result for me was: a drumstick from Andy Newmark, Bryan's setlist and a list with te names of the bandmembers (in case Bryan forgot them). The security-officers asked us to leave the hall. We did, but only after we checked that there was no merchendise left on stage.... Then we took some drinks and talked with several fans. We all agreed: This was one of the best, no....this was the best show ever. After buying some merchandise (tourbook, polo-shirt and a poster) we went to the back-side of the HMH hoping to meet Bryan. But at the moment we got there, the car (with Bryan) drove away. Other fans told us that Bryan took a lot of time for making photo's and signing tickets and tourbooks. But unfortunately we were too late for that. On the way back home we looked at the pictures we made and talked about the great show. 24:00 clock. Back in Rotterdam. After saying goodbye to Dick and Petra, I drove home, took a drink and went to bed. Today I take some rest and prepare myself for Anwerp tomorrow. Take care. So I would bet on something like Slave to Love, LITD and JG (of course) N. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Mar 2007 05:41:34 -0400 From: jocelynfiske@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Diana thing >wouldn`t have thought he would be mercanary enough to use a memorial concert as a "promotion" for Dylanesque. The long wait (supposed start was 8 a.m. without supporting act, instead we had a mediocre British blonde (Helen Boulding?) whining four items at us followed by another long beerpause - Bry finally took the stage at 9) was rewarded. The setlist was top of the bill, even though Just Like You had been swapped for JG (as Dick and Petra also mentioned). JG went down very well with the general public, so from a marketing point of view this was the right choice. But we cognoscenti were treated to a.o. This Island Earth, Love Me madly and a firm, crispy Casanova. LMM was my personal highlight, but there were so many other moments of bliss. After a solid start with the Incrowd, we had Kiss and Tell. This song sounded so much better live than on the record. It was a revelation to me. The Dylan songs were ok, with The Times They Are getting everyone swinging in front of the stage. The venue was one with allotted seats (some 5000?) only, but a huge crowd had rushed forward from the third song onwards, and Bryan really seemed to enjoy this welcome. All in all, here was Bryan with well-oiled, strong vocal cords and a great band behind him. The womensingers went right over the top, as they should, swinging and reeling at their high notes. Oliver was a miracle, the bass player did a fine job as well. Spedding looked quite tired, he took his refuge to a chair several time. None of this for Bry, who strutted the stage as in days of old. I must say however, I missed TGTP. Newmark is a reliable drummer, but does not get near Thompson's percussion athletics. Lovely to see hardcore fan Anton, Sjaak, Han and other familiar faces there too. Saw some crowd waiting at the stage door when leaving. Did anyone catch glimpses, autographs or more?
