That was one of the most enjoyable concerts I've been to recently- and I think I enjoyed it more because of the great mix of old and new. I was blown away by 'This Island Earth'- one of my favourite ever BF songs and 'Just like you'- a great performance of such a rare gem. The inclusion of 'When she walks in the room' and 'Love me madly' was also very much appreciated. The Dylan songs were performed with gusto and craftmanship. Ollie was impressive- if a little carried away at times, but Leo and Chris were solid. Ferry's voice was the strongest I've heard it for a while. Only some minor whinges- I though LITD and LST could have been improved on as choices for the encore- but then again they certainly got people moving! All in all, a great concert- it far surpassed expectations: gig will be available for trade in about 10 days' time, my usual rules apply. I'm willing to send a copy to each of the first five list members who'll get in touch with me off-list - starting now! Great to see that the recording is in true 16:9; shame to hear that it's in mono. The BBC should know better, reallyb& The show seems really good, though. I'll watch it later this week. His hair just hangs limply in which ever direction his head is tilted... 2) I love Bryan's bravado in attempting French in that interview given that his vocabulary is so severely limited. 3) Dylanesque is no 8 in Milton Keynes HMV chart. 4) Is there going to be a single from the album? I think MYFML would be better than the previously touted INFY. 5) London now has 30ft tall posters of Bryan promoting the M&S Autograph range. In Harlesden in particular, it's very strange to drive around the corner and find yourself face to face with a giant BF... 6) Whoever designed merchandise at the concerts (with the exception of the programme) should be shot. The bags and bandannas and T-shirts with the Dylanesque cover stuck on them about 3ins square is not imaginative or stylish, just naff. Whatever happened to BF's perfectionist approach and interventionist insistence? Maybe the tour just couldn't wait 3 years? 7) I have always loved Taxi in its original form. And now I find I have accidentally kept the audio from that weblink. But have to say that, while BF's version is "okay", it is odd that someone so steeped in R&B would completely lose the soul feel of this song as it transfers to sounding like every other Ferry song of that era... 8) I know these two guys have worked their way through most of the models in the rock business, but I am pretty sure that Carla Bruni is an ex of Mick Jagger's. She also adds nothing to MYFML in the French duet version. A must for any completist, i agree, but not a plus... 9) I agree that the tribute inside back cover to Anna Nicole Smith was a nice gesture. 10) The Royal Albert Hall concert was even better than the BBC gig. The band much better attuned to each other. Have asked Leo why he and Ollie have swapped sides - anyone have their own theories? But the concert is too short, too hurried and over too soon. But hey it was great fun. Long time since I have left a Ferry concert with audience members chanting one of the songs on the way to the exit. I still heard people complain "shame he didn't play Avalon" though... Question: Do we think the London Sessions mean the show that was shown on Channel 4? Or the BBC Session from St Lukes? I originally thought the latter but now I believe the former. Does anyone know for sure? Even Country Life, which looks like a straight typeface, I think is hand-drawn. This was very much the practice back then, when typography & logography(?) was a much more organic, hand-crafted discipline. As to which faces were used as inspiration, I'm far too lazy to research. And I'd love to be wrong, certainly in the case of the original logo :) Lee S ____________________________________________ Easily distracted? Displacement activity a problem? Me too.
