A bored looking Ferry singing just about well enough and subjecting himself to 2 or 3 minutes of questions. He sang "Postively 4th Street" The Channel 4 thing was brilliant. Looked like it had filmed the recordings being done in the studio. A bit different, every track I think apart from Baby let me follow you down. Great stuff, and the version of Tom Thumbs blues was much longer. I think this is the strongest track. Onto the trivia, he didn't half look better in his jeans for a change. Really excellent, if you recorded it youll be impressed. Mark Stephens made the comment >Only downside, Where was Julia Thornton?< My sources at the edges of the Julia Thornton camp tell me after the wonderful work she did with the Black Smoke Band in Jeff Wayne's musical version of The War of the Worlds, she has been asked to play harp and percussion on Russell Watsons' current tour. Unless they recast the Black Smoke Band, Spedding and Good will not be available for anything Ferry or Roxy related in December, as they are re-staging WOTW. Julia would have loved to play on Bryans' tour, but was not invited. He seemed to like the audience's very positive reaction. But I agree the performance was lacklustre, and I think he messed up the words at one point. I missed the Channel 4 doc by typing in the Videoplus number for the following Abbey Rd sessions!! Great stuff. Perfect opener with "Just Like Tom Thumbs Blues" Mr Ferry sounds like he is great shape with the harmonica on this one. Took my daughter Holly, 11 to see it. Cracking seats row 4 dead centre. Well, I was nervous about it, Carlisle sounded flat audience wise and no one posted about Dundee at all. But it was terrific. Thought he had a very positive crowd right from the off, up and at it from the opening chords of The In Crowd. I'm not a Ferry academic as such, but hearing songs like Just Like You, This Island Earth and especially the magnificent version of When She Walks in the Room was a treat. Just Like Tom Thumbs Blues is a terrific track. Had he not had a positive crowd the number of obscure and new tracks might have made it boring for the casual attender, but confirmed fans will love it. No slave to love no don't stop the dance but Kiss and tell and love me madly...........and no Do the Strand. Strong finish with Tokyo Joe, Watchtower, Hard Rain, LST and Jealous Guy. So thought it was superb, thoroughly enjoyed it. So hard to believe he is 61. But.... Not 100% certain that Ferry is as relaxed as he might be, and he rather shot off stage at the end. Somebody said on the way out "What did you think of it?, I thought it was awful, that wasn't Bryan Ferry, there were no Roxy Music songs I am very disappointed." A bit stupid really, would you expect a Jam concert if you went to see Paul Weller? Now I thought it was superb as I mentioned but then Ive seen all the tours from Limbo onwards and would probably be frustrated if he did the usual stuff again.....hopefully this woman is in a minority but I wouldn't be certain. Maybe like ATGB he will introduce more hits into the set as the tour goes on. The BBC2 interview last night appeared to confirm the Roxy album will not be 2007. Or possibly even 2008. Now theres a surprise. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V12 #58 **************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
