I'm on a dial-up connection (at 28.8 Kbps) to the 'net, so need to streamline the search a bit. What music papers were around in the late 60s in the UK, and anyone aware of a free look-up service of them? NME's site is sooooo graphics intense, I'll only head over there if I can get at archives as their front page (even) takes forever to draw. Any/all help appreciated - just email me direct and reference "avalon" in the subject line so my spam filter doesn't auto-delete. (Many Svyturys under the belt - those that know me know I am living & working in Lithuania!) I did not get to meet Martino last night, but did have the pleasure of Richard Mills' & a lady by the name of Deniece(?)s' company. I enthused about "This Island Earth" as well, but for me the real gem was "Just Like You"! Not to mention "All Along the Watchtower" .... sublime. (What about BF's smokebreak? - where he left the ensemble to improvise for 5 minutes!) I am sure Richard will post a blow-by-blow account, so why should I say more? I managed to get some real amateurish video on my digital camera if anyone is interested. It galvanised me for the 75-mile round trip on which I might have been embarking in vain, but I'm pleased to say - wahay! I got in, due to the very kind Denise who I met in the queue outside and who took me in to the concert as her +1 partner. Ticketing arrangements were very weird. I met Leo Abrahams outside also in the queue just 40 mins before they went on stage. Couldn't quite believe he needed to be queueing, but he seemed to think he did. He also told me to expect a 75-mins set, so I was not too disappointed when they called a halt at exactly 9.15pm. In any event, the shows that BF did outdoors at those stately homes were only 75 mins. Though the set was substantially Dylanesque (naturally enough, as this was a showcase to promote said album), there was not as much as I expected (no If Not For You or Times They Are A Changing). Did not expect The In Crowd as opener (or I'd have asked Martin for odds) and I felt it lacked punch. But the sound was quickly rebalanced (from where I was) and the musicians were in fine fettle. Remarkable now just how close this band line-up is to that which constituted Roxy Music last summer (though no Manzanera or Mackay obviously). Lovely to hear This Island Earth and Just Like You. Best wishes Richard Mills PS Martin - when BF disappeared during one song and did not return in time for the next song and the band jammed, did he powder his nose or was he caught short? I missed what he said when he was back. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V12 #36 **************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
