And in another comparison with Leonard Cohen, on Cohen's ability to wear a suit, theres a remark along the lines of:"Here's a man you won't catch advertising for M&S". There was an article in the Guardian a few weeks back about the author not being able to look like BF even though he buys all his clothes from M&S - I'll try to post it at the weekend. But I get the feeling that advertising for M&S may have backfired for both Ferry and the company, I don't know what others think? And then I think I also couldn't look like him even if I wanted to!..... And then I think- what type of company wants to make me think I can look like him (it's an insult because it's obviously an advert and nothing else!)!!! So- big thumbs down from me! However, if any M&S people out there in Avalon land want to pay me to wear their clothes- I will definitely consider it. mactheaxe On Thu Nov 9 13:30 , 'Andrew Shearer' sent: In the Word magazine a few digs at BF: One is a double spread indicating what's cool and what's not - BF is shown near the fire alarm, whereas Leonard Cohen is shown as sub-zero. I drifted into an M&S for the first time since I was 9 years old the other day, and found myself drawn to a 10ft high image of our Cool Ruler. Certainly the jacket he wears with the stripey shirt is poor quality close up, but the shirts are ok, and the prices are ridiculously cheap. I kinda like him supporting a truly British brand, and he adopts a relaxed and happy look in the marketing collateral. Does it work for M&S? I'm fairly sure it does. Does it work for Bryan.... I think the jury's out. Adolescent inky scibblers will always have a pop at the old boy - they're light years away from knowing him as one of the great innovators of pop, and how his style and vision has changed the landscape of popular culture. "Getting" the BF zietgist is far from easy. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-avalon@smoe.org [mailto:owner-avalon@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Andrew Shearer Sent: 09 November 2006 13:31 To: avalon@smoe.org Subject: RE: [AVALON] ouch In the Word magazine a few digs at BF: One is a double spread indicating what's cool and what's not - BF is shown near the fire alarm, whereas Leonard Cohen is shown as sub-zero.
