["Colette Robertson" Subject: RE: [AVALON] and the Outstanding Achivement Brit award goes to....... Yes, annoying isn't it when an OK group who just copied the Beatles are recognized and the unique Ferry who loads tried to copy is ignored. I say tried as I don't think many have been able to copy him successfully, another sign of his brilliant uniqueness. Of course if he actually got some material out that might push him forward a bit on the awards front, lifetime or not. Does anyone on here Like Leonard Cohen? I don't buy his releases religiously but picked up "10 new songs" - excellent. Oddly enough, the lifetime Brit award usually goes to an artist as they are releasing a greatest hits. There are quite a few occasions that Ferry would have been eligable then... I'm confused about this award show. Is the London Roundhouse a different venue to Shoreditch Town Hall where previous news stated that Roxy Music were given the Radio Icon Award? They are not mentioned in the program details and the Diesel-U-Music site gives a different date for the show being shown on C4. From C4 lisitngs:- 4Music: Digital Music Awards 2006 00:00 - 01:00 Sunday, 22 October Alex Zane introduces the awards from London's Roundhouse, featuring performances by Lil Chris, Plan B, Nate James and Sandi Thom, plus interviews with OK Go and the Mystery Jets From Diesel-U-Music site:- On a clear night in early October, the classically elegant surroundings of Shoreditch Town Hall played host to the Sixth Annual Diesel-U-Music Awards. The hostess was the lovely and very charming Lauren Laverne. As the red carpet descended, the stars flocked to the event in their droves. In attendance were Skin, Sadie Frost, Anna Friel and Goldie to name a few, not to mention newcomers to the scene and the iconic music veterans who were up for an award themselves. The show kicked off with an incredibly soulful number from Amp Fiddler, and was peppered throughout with performances from the competition winners. Englands Duke Dumont, winner of the Electronic category, played from the Halls ornate balcony dressed as Mozart in a mask, accompanied by dancers dressed in full Renaissance costume. Move.Meant, US winners of the Urban strand, stomped and rapped to an appreciative crowd and Italys Stoop (Rock Winner) power chorded their way through the set. An appearance by Sway embedded among the golden performance contributed finely to the musical vibe. Awards were handed out by Popworlds Alex Zane and Alexa Chung after each winners performance, most notably Duke Dumonts arrival at the stage to collect still in costume, provided a comically manoeuvred anonymity that will make him difficult to forget. Former official photographer for David Bowie and the man who Photographed the Seventies, Mick Rock, picked up the award for Contribution to Music, while equally legendary Phil Manzanera collected the Channel Four Radio Music Icon award for Roxy Music. The Epochs, US Finalists for the Rock Category, were the winners of the inaugural Public Vote never before has the competition had such an award and the boys from Brooklyn, New York collected with pride. The sophisticated and elegant fagade of the awards ceremony was later replaced with a party atmosphere as the aftershow bash was set under way upstairs. The guests partied, danced and drank well into the early hours, and saw blinding performances from the Guillemots and Larrikin Love stamping a final finishing touch to an evening devoted to the celebration and enjoyment of new music. Check our Winners Section for details on all our 2006 winners! Don't worry if you couldn't make the event, the Awards Show will be televised on Channel 4 (UK) on November 1st at 11:45PM. I've not heard the new one yet but did see Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man back in the summer. Antony's performance of "If It Be Your Will" is worth the price of the soundtrack CD. There was also a quick shot of Spedding, playing guitar, in the film. Judy -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: > Does anyone on here Like Leonard Cohen?
