I think its rather sweet that he has his lads involved - why the hell not! And I'd be fascinated to break bread with any of his intriguing offspring. I didn't see his performance at the Armani junket yet I'm sure that all these Avalonions can't be wrong about the poor vocals and general lack of imagination. (Although I must say I prefer LST as a one-off song coice to JG, Strand, Slave, VP, LITD or Avalon.) But Thom, c'mon, talk of "graceful" retirement after one lacklustre performance is a bit harsh. Avalonia adored the car show gig in East London, said he was in fab form, and that was only a few weeks ago. His vocal performance is often variable but, on balance, has been far better this decade than the 90s. And his onstage swagger is definitely back. Waiting for new material has been the air we breathe for the last 20 years and, for me, is all part of the delicious foreplay of admiring this unique character. I guess its all about expectations. If the Cool Ruler is under pressure to put out Manzo's drippy ballads - blimey Broken Dreams has to be the dullest piece of prog-rock I've heard in 30 years - then I can see how the new Roxy album has been postponed. We all know Bryan is difficult - he knows it and constantly refers to it - but he is a genius and cares passionately about material bearing his name. The exception appears to be when folks remix his songs; then he lets them get on with it, comfortable that he can distance himself from the end result.... As I have yet to hear these remixes I'll reserve judgement on them though I was under the impression the remixes would be released as an album, not a series of ep's. Are these the same product or two separate release projects? The release of these seems as hit and miss as the ongoing saga of the new Roxy album that may or may not be preceded by a Ferry solo album. In all honesty I'm getting bored senseless waiting, and having seen Ferry's slot on the box the other night I would describe it in one word "crap". If that is an indicator of the quality of his performance in the future I'd say get the new material out and follow it with the material that has been stashed away over the last 16 years as a box set and then "Retire as Gracefully as possible". ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon - -- No virus found in this incoming message. Or perhaps they are just freeing up warehouse space for all the unsold remix albums they will have? The game in question is "SingStar Legends", and besides our boys, it includes Lennon, Bowie, The Smiths, The Stones, Nirvana, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Black Sabbath. They arent proper backing tracks, but they are good enough to make a *** of yourself after a few too many. I have killed Jealous Guy on many an occasion. LST by the way is a very difficult song to sing, you wouldnt think so, but it is. More than This - people would call Police if I tried that. Which brings me back to Docklands - he did it brilliantly there > Message Received: Oct 02 2006, 05:33 PM > From: "Joel Hurd" > To: avalon@smoe.org > Cc: > Subject: [AVALON] Roxy Music on the Playstation 2 (SingStar Legends) > > I just noticed that Roxy Music's "Love Is The Drug" is a featured > karaoke track in the next edition of the PlayStation 2 "SingStar" > franchise. It is funny though how with Ferry you never know what youre getting. LST is his best track for such occasions by a mile, and as Collette was saying his performance at that Fashion Rocks thing was probably the best TV performance Ive seen, brilliantly coordinated and powerfully delivered. Wish I hadnt recorded over that before acquiring the DVD recorder. As Collette mentions the entrance is wonderful, and theres a super cool bit in the middle where he shakes his head, hair moving perfectly, and you knew why the Albert Hall was bouncing. But by any standards the Armani thing was poor. The sort of poor I feared we would get at Docklands. But Thom if you had seen that you'd know there is life in the prisoner of perfection yet. I don't think his mixing is consistent live. It was at Docklands, the sound was great, and you could hear the pulse AND Ferry. Too often you can only hear the pulse, and he's trying (or not) to be heard above it. Like at Armani. He looked shaky to me, not the confident performer of late. Scared to try too hard. Maybe you just get a bad day sometimes at 61. I LOVE that otter skin jacket - superb. Even in his heyday I used to have my heart in my mouth if he was singing live, always felt he was on the edge of dying a death if he was too out of tune. Live Aid anyone? Sorry bit of a ramble!
