Bitter-Sweet, Triptych and Casanova being further wonderful examples of BF's "Dark Side". On a plus point though, it feels like the early tremors of a Roxy / BF marketing campaign. (Then again, it might be just the aftershock.) Just as Roxy were ushered in through the Bowie tour support slot and Leo Sayer in turn through a support slot with Roxy, Sailor were brought to a gigging nation's attention in 1975 on a tour by Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel celebrating their Come Up and See Me success. Georg Kajanus certainly did seem to attract the same girls (in my experience) that Bryan Ferry would have won with and magicked up a mysterious biog that claimed all sorts of possible origins and parentage, together with all sorts of romantic-cum-seedy backgrounds for the inspiration for songs about strippers, hookers and red light areas of Amsterdam. A kind of teatime Supersonic Jacques Brel. Since then, there have been various line-up changes including an album with a female lead vocalist (!) where they went all sort of Beach Boys. But now, following a 10-year peiod with the same male singer, they have just announced a line-up identical to the hits line-up with just one exception - Henry Marsh (who stood one side of the double sided nickelodeon) has introduced his son as the new vocalist. So it's Phil Pickett, Henry Marsh, Grant Serpell and Marsh Junior. Touring across Europe and back seems to be an ongoing thing with box sets of unreleased material and live albums seemingly every few months. Georg Kajanus meanwhile has just seen a stage musical based on his Sailor hits and other music premiered north of the border, up Caledonia way. He also has been busy producing solo albums and a solo anthology. In fact, more activity than in the Roxy camp (pardon the pun) by quite some way. Best wishes Richard Mills n/p Traffic Jam - Sailor ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V11 #218 ***************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
