Tee he he. All I can say is that Ferry's marketing machine bores people with an overwhelming dearth of silence that is sporadically ripped with hodge podged nonsense long after a few hundred or so fans have played unofficial releases to death! ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Sep 2006 20:07:52 +0100 From: philip77@tiscali.co.uk Subject: [AVALON] Ferry's career path I think a career spanning 35 years from mid twenties to almost pensionable age is not bad going. He's still around, a real one-off , not a McCartney or Stewart , for sure and thank god for that. When the obituaries are written he will not be seen as a has-been, he's kept ahead of his game and has developed, matured, ..call it what you want.. as an artist . He's not afraid to do things his way, try new things and he has never diluted his "body of work" by endless repetitive releases os similar material , something I think he is quite proud of. Bete Noire had already long bombed out the charts by the time the Limbo tour started. Saw it in Glasgow Dec 88 - excellent show. But back to Bete Noire - One UK TV appearance on Terry Wogan and a couple of interviews in Arena and the likes. Do you feel Bete Noire was well marketed and managed? hot on the heels (by Ferry standards) of the hugely successful Boys and Girls comes three cracking singles in Limbo, Kiss and Tell, and the very commercial Right Stuff. Kiss and Tell peaked at 41 or 43, and Right Stuff at 37. The latter in particular would have been top ten if properly promoted. I meant the silence in the UK at the time Bete Noire was released. If you arent part of Ferrys management do you know someone who is? cheers Rob > Message Received: Sep 19 2006, 12:17 AM > From: KWil632057@aol.com > To: robert@rwhiteford.freeserve.co.uk, avalon@smoe.org > Cc: > Subject: Re: [AVALON]M&S/other junk > > In a message dated 18/09/2006 23:30:04 GMT Standard Time, > robert@rwhiteford.freeserve.co.uk writes: > > I can;t square the appear with Ed the Duck,Jim D and Twiggy when "the time > comes to promote" with defeaning slience on Bete Noire for example. > > > > The deafening silence of a mammoth worldwide tour you mean? > > ;) > > J > > > ___________________________________________________________________________ > To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Sep 2006 22:13:15 +0200 (CEST) From: robert@rwhiteford.freeserve.co.uk Subject: RE: [AVALON] Ferry's career path Totally agree. But most of the general public couldnt name you a song he's recorded since Slave to Love in 1985. Ferry himself has been quoted as saying that the eighties werent great career wise for him. For a talent like him to have released Taxi, Mamouna and As Time Goes By in a decade doesnt smack of professional management. Especially as Mamouna reportedly cost him B#800,000 of his own money and forced him to sell a flat. And was it much better than horoscope? Nope. Not content with this we then have another 6 year wait for Frantic, an album of songs already written and some covers. Much better than Alphaville? Nope. I really admire Ferry and his music. He;s been my favourite artist by a long way since I was 15, 24 years ago. So I hope most will forgive a little frustration at his meagre output, especially as this appears not to be as a result of him lazing about. Why not get the stuff in can out? > Message Received: Sep 19 2006, 08:15 PM > From: philip77@tiscali.co.uk > To: robert@rwhiteford.freeserve.co.uk > Cc: avalon@smoe.org > Subject: [AVALON] Ferry's career path > > I think a career spanning 35 years from mid twenties to almost pensionable > age is not bad going. I, Thought, Don't Think Twice, the pounding, bitterness of Nobody Loves Me all stand out as highlights. What exactly do you mean by "Frantic, an album of songs already written" ?
