I finally got round to buying The Rogue's Gallery. It' always hard to form  
an opinion on something like this when Ferry is not doing his 'own thing'.
 
If someone played me The Cruel Ship's Captain and told me it was a song  form 
the new Roxy album I would have seen it as being a 2006 Strictly  
Confidential in that it has a similar dark mood. The arrangement is similar to  one of 
the songs Ferry did at the Meltdown Festival in 1999. This is  probably a lot to 
do with the fact that show and this album were both produced  by Hal Wilner. 
If this track had Lyrics by Ferry I would say it would fit in  with songs like 
Zamba, The Only Face, Boys And Girls, Sea Breezes.
 
I would say Lowlands Low is a departure from Ferry's normal output but he  
has had so many departures then that has become the normal. This song is  more 
lively than the Cruel Ships Captian with the fiddle giving it a sort of jig  
feel. Antony Hegarty's voice is very Ferry like and blends well. Even 'Mr Cool'  
can get away with singing the line 'Our junk's as salty as a bailer's arse'. 
 
One thing I did notice was that Leo Abrahams said he had worked with Ferry  
on this album and said that Bryan was 'indescribably cool, even when singing  
about fish'. Bryan didn't sing about fish on any of these songs and Leo is not  
credited on the sleeve so maybe we will see more of this stuff next year on  
Volume 2 planned for 2007.

Subject: [AVALON] [Avalon] Live Tokyo 1977

Hi all,

Recieved a copy of Ferry live in Tokyo 1977, of course all you 
"affecianodos" allready have
seen this but for me it was quite interesting to see him on that tour 
with a band that consisted
of a few familiar faces, Chris Spedding, Phil Manzanera and Paul Thompson.
Unfortunately no backup singers so the backup vocals felt a bit weak in 
my opinion,.
The sound quality is very good also.
Don't know if this is generally release or if it's an obscure label who 
have released it.
