Unlike my fellow band of Irish bound travellers my journeys were relatively 
painless, no bomb scares, no delays.
I am, however, still nursing a bruised coccyx from our so-called return 
landing where our pilot decided to drop us brick-like from 30ft straight through 
the runway to a universal chorus of "Beeeeeeejeeeeeezus!!!"
As per usual the Reecey Blog has provided you with the minutiae of the trip-  
far more than is wise, especially if the Garda are reading. So I'll attempt 
to restrict myself to some edited highlights.
DUBLIN: Probably the first and last decent meal of the trip, served up in the 
salubrious dank of an olde worlde Irish pub - one completely dismantled 
Aberdeen Angus smothered in lashings of gravy.
Then off to the gig for a sauna aerobic session. A miserable Ferry, obviously 
bothered by the heat but steadfastly refusing to remove his jacket much to 
the consternation of the more vocal female members of the audience, ambling off 
stage on several occasions leaving a bemused Manzo to fiddle  impromptu solos 
while mouthing at Messers Newmark and Pratt "what the **** was that all 
about?"
The messing about with said drum'n'bass duo during Jealous Guy when Noomark 
failed to emulate TGPT's trademark brutal single beat (actually originated by 
AN, my favourite N Irish anorak informs me) bringing much rolling of eyes, "you 
can't get the staff" and good humoured throat slitting gestures.
And Mr MacKay. Oh yes, Mr MacKay, methinks you have the twinkle back in the 
old myopic eye. And could a full bosomed song thrush be the reason for said 
glint? Lots of on-stage shot looks and laughter and a near 60 year old 
saxophonist regenerated into the peacock of yesteryear impressing with his dancing (at 
every opportunity) and a virtuoso performance that was truly awesome. I did 
worry for his health at the first blast of Remake Remodel, however, when he went 
as puce as an Oswald Boetang suit. The surprise inclusion of Prairie Rose (a 
shambles on night one), Pyjamerama, More than This and a thousand mile per hour 
Bogus Man on helium. The after show banter in the adjacent bar and the chaos 
diving down to Temple Bar for last drink and food orders, both of which we 
just missed. So much for 24 hour party town Dublin!
And then there was Cork to come...

Cork - the land of "tick buddor" and pigs. For future reference, fellow 
travellers, if you are vegetarian or lacto-intolerant avoid Cork like the plague. 
In fact, if you're just plain intolerant, avoid Cork, for a funnier more laid 
back bunch you're not likely to meet. Everyone from our country life hotel 
staff (Irish by proxy) to our local pub manager, who when begged for late night 
sustenance sorrowfully informed us that he could just about rustle up one ham 
sandwich, only to miraculously return with 3 toasted BLTs and chips for all. 
Holy Mary Mother of God put up a statue and order a canonisation.
The gig? A big top full of clowns. One of those laugh a minute evenings, 
apart from the bizarre little septuagenarian lady who battle-rammed all 4' 11" of 
herself to the front to wave her bottle of meths at Mr F. Bless! Now where's 
my fly swat? This night's gig was unrecognisable from the previous night's. 
Nailed down, top-formed and dare I say it, even sounding well-rehearsed. Apart 
from Andy Newmark's drum solo intro to a misplaced OOTB  - which elicited a 
sarcy "Andy Newmark on drums!" from the F. Oh and a forgotten intro into the 
second part of VP by the vocalist to elicit a sarcy "...where my Studebaker takes 
me!!" from the audience. I finally found out where the violin solo came from on 
OOTB after wittering on about "what's the point of playing this if they 
haven't got a violinist?" I forgot about Leo's box of laptop tricks. And I must 
make special mention of Isaac's mate Ollie Thompson the YTS boy. A+ with 
distinction for guitarwork but must pay more attention in his socio-economics class. 
Will not be allowed back next school term without a more updated haircut and 
his headband returned to the St John's Ambulance Service. Hilarious to see him 
drinking what appeared to be milk at the bar (that better not be a White 
Russian boy, or it's a visit to the head for you!). Double bless! Both guitarists 
added something new to the set up. Andy again on fire, but tonight strangely 
zombie like between solos, as if he was some fleshed out Cyborg with his 
motherboard removed. Forever the enigma.
F on top form playing to his kids and their friends in the pit, flamboyantly 
throwing down his harmonica at the end of LST and camply swaggering as if to 
say "Who's the Daddy!"
Afterwards in the bar, a right old ragbag of a cultural singalong with the 
resident single-malt Irish contingency giving an 139 verse rendition of the 
Irish Rover, a pathetic stab at sea chanteys by all and sundry, and an even more 
feeble attempt at Cushy Butterfield and The Lampton Worm by a trio of Geordie 
wenches who really should know better.
Then a spot of ovum felony to round of the night.
Next day and a trip to Blarney Castle courtesy of our ever accommodating 
native Irish guide who didn't speak a word of English (having been based in NY and 
Florida way too long) for an afternoon of coin-tossing, well-wishing and 
stone-kissing.
And god help you all, but there's now 4 of us who have kissed the Blarney and 
have no control but to talk, talk, talk ourselves to death, and we're 
determined to take you all with us.

I don't think the show has sold out yet, but if anyone has a single spare
ticket (standing) please contact me off list. I give in, I am going, read
on.......................

Before the Dublin show, I had quite a low expectation about it all, would we
still get the same old set list? No chance of a new tune, I would have been
excited about a sea shanty, I was that desperate. I even contemplated bailing
out of this wondering what am I am doing here again? Would the Ireland shows
be the last ones I see? My enthusiasm for another show was as low as a rattle
snakes scrotum. But hey oh, after a cock up with the dates and venues, I
scrapped my flight into Cork on Tuesday, and got another flight into Dublin on
Wednesday, and it wasn't long before the usual suspects start to appear. First
Duncan, then Nigel. An ice cold Guinness or two later, it was time to find the
venue and seek pole position. At the front of the queue, it was comforting to
find more suspects. Jane Fraser (and Al) have been in pole position more times
than Michael Schumacher, and edging into place, Jocelyn, Reecey, and John
Dillon, with John O'Brien taking a pit stop, Ann Spencer and two more lovely
Geordies, Monica and Lyne.  Taking up my usual spot in front of Mr McKay It
seemed a long wait, thinking, what if England had of been in the semi final
that very night? would we have all sacrificed the match to get to our usual
front row position? I am not so sure.

It has already been written about the show, small stage, a well polished,
rusty warm up. everyone leaning over the barrier, breaking a neck to see if we
could get a glimpse of the set list. It must have been Jon Dillon, at 7feet 16
inches high who was the only one to notice, Lets Stick Together as the final
number. Sacrilege, Reecy cries, as if he was accusing Ferry of meddling with
generic engineering.

Full marks to all the new members of the band, especially Andy Newmark,
standing in at short notice, they must have made good use of the two days
spent in rehearsal. Works experience was for a week when I was at school.
Seems if you wear a bandana and play a guitar you can do what you like these
days. It was nice to see Phil encorouging Oliver Thomson centre stage, at one
point I thought he was going for the centre microphone, probably to pronounce,
The Milky Bars on on me! Where was Julia or Lucy, they could have filled a big
void in the show.
It was still refreshing to hear The Bogus Man, Pyjamarama and Prarie Rose, and
we had the challenge on vocals of More Than This, seldom heard on the 2001
tour. Alas the band must of heard Reeceys cries, and decided on Ferrys,
animated Cut Throat cue, to quit without as much as a sacrid marriage vow.

Rush into the bar after, a top up of Guiness, a few suspects interviewed on
camera for BryanFerry.com. Feedback was sought about the website, You tell em
Jocelyn! not one for holding back.They are pulling out all the stops to get
them on the website to co-incide with the 2012 farewell tour.
By now I was looking forward to the Cork show, and what a Corker it
was................to be continued, if you are not asleep already

If I booked the original flight from Dublin to Cork, I would have been on the
same flight as the band, alas It was another time another airline, taking
Ryanair in the morning to Cork. Well at least we managed to get the same hotel
as the band.
