Short Drag Shanty : Short drag shanties were for tasks that required quick pulls over a relatively short time. When working in rough weather these songs kept them all in a rhythm. Long Drag Shanty : Long drag shanties were for work that required more setup time between pulls. This type of shanty gave them a rest in between pulls, a chance to get a breath and a better grip, and coordinated their efforts to make the most of the groups strength for the next pull. Capstan Shanty : Capstan shanties were used for long or repetitive tasks that simply need a sustained rhythm. Eno will not be joining Ferry on the chorus his newly penned Short Drag - "Katie, get that Monkey of My Back" As an appropriate departure Ferry will be wearing Galliano,as Mr. price felt snubbed at not being included in any of the drag numbers. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Jun 2006 15:11:46 EDT From: KWil632057@aol.com Subject: [AVALON] Ferry's cheeky grin... There is a charming retrospective of Terence Donovan's photography in this months issue of GQ (July - UK). As well as reproducing an excellent photo of Ferry, Bryan also contributes a lengthy tribute to Donovan, commenting 'That picture shows my cheeky grin, which no other image shows.'
