J - ------ "Whatever it might mean."?! ----- Jonathan, I didn't expect you to understand what I meant by writing "I'd love to troll downtown through Ferry eyes." - the comment was directed to the ever clever and bright Mr. Deagle - but since you've raised the issue, I'll explain the phraseology for you. Think of the well known phrases 'to see the world through someone else's eyes', 'I'd love to know what he was thinking' and 'mind-set', they fairly equate with the phrase "through Ferry eyes". Now, "troll downtown" is a conditional hybrid of the idea of 'seeing the world through someone else's eyes' - in this instance "troll downtown through Ferry eyes" pertains to the video and its context. Simply put, I'd love to know, to see, to understand, briefly, how Mr. Ferry perceives the outside world, how it is processed and assimilated into his consciousness, how it impacts his artistic genius, and how that genius turns the stimulation into outward productivity in its artistry. Or... it may be... the next time you find yourself chumming with the man just pluck those peepers right out of his head, pop them on ice and send 'em my way... we'll handle it from there. Oh, and while you're at it, knock that 'writer's block' outta there too - that one thing alone should change the course of history as it pertains to Mr. Ferry's career! They actually do two Bowie songs (so he kind of wins hands down again), David Essex, Sweet, John Kongos...but have elected to omit any solo Eno records. Surely an oversight, but I guess this confirms that Eno has had no impact on modern music whatsoever and Def Leppard, representing the creme de la creme of music in the 21st Century, have been more influenced and informed by Bryan Ferry. Best wishes Richard Mills *Jury's still out on whether the album title has an unwritten subtitle "Oh (On The Radio)"... ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 May 2006 01:40:51 EDT From: KWil632057@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Street Life In a message dated 30/05/2006 04:21:27 GMT Daylight Time, Chandla911@aol.com writes: They actually do two Bowie songs (so he kind of wins hands down again) Having two of your songs covered by Def Leppard. Does this make you in any, way, shape or form a 'winner' - discuss? Personally I'm more impressed by Blondie's excellent reading of 'More Than This.' Now that IS a winning formula.
